Eden Garden Kolkata misses out on World Cup match

BCCI is washing their hands off this Eden Gardens mess. Since its Dalmiya's power, they say they are not to blame.:facepalm Idiots! First the CWG, and now this. INDIA'S IMAGE IS DAMAGED!:mad

ya.. except the fact that it's broken and freked up.

What's that salt lake stadium on that list? For soccer? Really? They have their biggest ground for soccer over cricket?? In India?? Why?

soccer is actually huge in Bengal region. :cheers

TBH, the BCCI really shouldn't be blamed for the mess. The Cricket Association of Bengal, and all the other regional cricket organizations of India, enjoy some autonomy in matters pertaining to proper administration of cricket in the regions that fall under their ambit. The BCCI, even if it wanted to, couldn't have interfered to expediate of the renovation work at Eden as that's against the rules, if I'm not wrong. Finishing the work in time was solely the responsibility of the CAB, and they have failed to deliver in that regard. Feeling pretty sad as a citizen of Kolkata, but it serves the CAB right for being lackadaisical, corrupt and utterly inefficient in their dealings over the past few years. I knew this was coming a long time back. Going by pictures which inundated the front page in all regional papers today, the interior of the stadium still looks APPALLING with debris and construction material still lying in the stands that were supposed to be completed last year.

The CAB is talking about at a political conspiracy hatched by the BCCI and ICC to defame the organization. How imbecile and outrageous to even point fingers at the ICC when the stadium resembles a junkyard even now!

That's probably bit of a hasty reaction. The Eden fiasco has dented our image alright, but there has been nothing to suggest that the subcontinent can't pull off a successful World Cup. We've hosted the WC twice before, and the ICC has green-signalled all other stadiums in the region apart from Eden.

IMO, the authorities could have postponed the renovation works at Eden or Wankhede to a later date. If these stadiums can host the IPL with smashing success, they can host the World Cup too.

lol what are you talking about. India's image will be "damaged" if we actually got all our stadiums ready in time.

Like I already said, Subcon. should never get to host anything big. These Habibs are not professional enough. Only 2 grounds are ready with only 20 days to go.

I bet they wasted all that time making that long ass promo. efftards

And which are these two grounds ? I am betting you would be referring to your Bangladeshi grounds ?

FYI, the grounds in India barring the Edens Garden are all ready.

Don't be so harsh ,Sai.

What Dalmiya and the BCCI have done now is good enough. Asked for an extension of 14 days- If the other stadiums were granted , then I see no reason why they should not grant it to Kolkata.

They should get FULL refunds and apology gift bags.
LOL @ apology gift bags. Hahah. What are they going to put in it? Laddoos and barfis? Or maybe some rasagullas since it was from Kolkata.

IMO the renovations were being pushed before the World Cup because the amenities/viewing experience of a cricket match in India is pretty pathetic compared to anywhere outside Asia.

Cool ! If its Bangalore, I'll probably catch the match since the city hasn't got any interesting ones, unless you count the India-Australia practice game and the encounter versus Ireland.

For Kolkata, Pawar's statement definitely gives some hope. Many tourists won't want to cancel their travel plans at the last moment. And for the stadium not being ready, its only the media boxes and certain ICC guidelines which have to be met with. So, there is still some hope.

Umm...no. It's not just the "media boxes and certain other ICC guidelines".

I'd much rather Eden being scrapped from the list of venues. The authorities here need to be taught a lesson for denting India's image.

The viewing experience at Eden isn't all that bad either. I've been there thrice and I can safely say that it could have pulled off a successful World Cup even without the renovations which have, ironically, further worsened the condition of the stadium instead of improving it.
Letting Eden be Eden was a much better option than tinkering with it and turning it to a junkyard, especially when the association's name is CAB, an organization known for being the epitome of inefficiency and corruption.

Wow.. this much work is pending and they are demanding only 10 days to complete? they had 2 years to do this and now they need just 10 days :lol

I hope its rejected, but wouldn't affect CAB though they will always remain corrupt.

They should still get it ready in time and have it raring and ready to go on game day just to embarrass the ICC.

Bit of an overreaction from people here. India's image is hardly damaged, sure a little complacent from CAB but if it gets moved to Bangalore or something what's the big deal?
