Draft: Eleven to One: an ODI RNG Draft

@Aislabie

From this very solid overall pool, I had one very obvious choice of player:

6. :ban: :ar: Shakib Al Hasan (R1)

@Supreme General
1677779425997.png

This pool had three or four really good options, but in the end Supreme General went for a World Cup winning captain:

1. :aus: :bat: Aaron Finch (R1)

@Ed Smith
1677779562952.png

After explaining his "irrational hatred of Jesse Ryder", Ed Smith went for a different Kiwi: Ken Rutherford.

5. :nzf: :bat: Ken Rutherford (R1)

@ddrap14
1677779678735.png

No points for guessing which of these players became Ddrap's first opening batter.
1677779734752.png

1. :saf: :bat: Herschelle Gibbs (R1)

@VC the slogger
1677779768848.png

This was a very popular draft pool, and from it Sourav Ganguly was picked. VC hasn't specified a batting position, so I've put him in as the first opening batter for this team.

2. :ind: :bat: Sourav Ganguly (R1)

- - - - -

@Aravind.
1677779890969.png

After rolling an improbable #1 for his player pool, Aravind claimed his first opening batter - but put him at #2 in the batting order.
1677779973397.png

2. :pak: :ar: Aamer Sohail (R1)

@ahmedleo414
1677780012483.png

There was only ever one player coming out of this pool. Asif Ali.
1677780053476.png

8. :ind: :ar: Ravichandran Ashwin (R1)

- - - - -

@Umair7
1677780083137.png

Umair managed to pull two players from this draft pool: Jacques Kallis the batter and Jacques Kallis the bowler.
1677780150001.png

4. :saf: :ar: Jacques Kallis (R1)

- - - - -

@Disharies
1677780192186.png

It's always good to get an early pool that covers a key specialist position. From this one, Disharies got an opening batter in Gary Kirsten.

2. :saf: :bat: Gary Kirsten (R1)

@pillowprocter
1677780285185.png

This was a pretty poor selection; I personally would have gone for Welegedara, but Wellalage covers two bases and might be the better pick.

8. :sri: :ar: Dunith Wellalage (R1)

@Verified Enigma
1677780368887.png

Another player pool with a pretty obvious choice to cover a specialist role: Rishabh Pant becomes Parth's wicket-keeper.

6. :ind: :wk: Rishabh Pant (R1)

@Till Valhalla
1677780458416.png

An absolute favourite player for so many people, to go for anyone other than Dravid here would have been madness.

3. :ind: :wkb: Rahul Dravid (R1)

@mohsin7827
1677780555153.png

In a tale of two Currans, Sam gets the nod mostly for having greater potential than his brother. Alex Cusack would have been my pick here for some Irish representation.
1677780621729.png

8. :eng: :ar: Sam Curran (R1)

@Neo 7
1677780656229.png

Here is the start of an ODI team built around Jos Buttler at number four. Now if only the England team had the courage to do that.
1677780704396.png

4. :eng: :wk: Jos Buttler (R1)

- - - - -

@Neptune
1677780817364.png

A decent pool of players with three or four viable choices. Mine would have been Adam Voges, but Neptune went for Wahab Riaz, getting in some left arm pace while it's available.
1677780870286.png

9. :pak: :bwl: Wahab Riaz (R1)

@Na Maloom Afraad
1677780739059.png

And here's another interesting pool of players. So many Mendises to pick from, and NMA grabs the mystery spinner.

10. :sri: :bwl: Ajantha Mendis (R1)

Everyone's Round Two pools will be coming shortly, from which you will again have 48 hours to make your picks.

Wow that was an interesting round with most participants getting a good pick barring a few.

Apologies for the slight delay getting these out - I watched Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and had to emotionally recover for several hours.

@Aislabie
1678060936045.png

With a batting average nearly as impressive as his drinking average, David Boon was a natural choice at the top of my batting order.
1678061003875.png

1. :aus: :bat: David Boon (R2)
6. :ban: :ar: Shakib Al Hasan (R1)

@Supreme General
1678061094218.png

For Supreme General, the big-hitting Glenn Maxwell was an easy choice.
1678061116088.png

1. :aus: :bat: Aaron Finch (R1)
5. :aus: :ar: Glenn Maxwell (R2)

@Ed Smith
1678061186511.png

From this pool, the obvious and uncontroversial choice was Jasprit Bumrah to take the new ball.
1678061220359.png

5. :nzf: :bat: Ken Rutherford (R1)
11. :ind: :bwl: Jasprit Bumrah (R2)

@ddrap14
1678061288511.png

Another very easy pick from a pool that otherwise held nothing.
1678061312119.png

1. :saf: :bat: Herschelle Gibbs (R1)
5. :sri: :bat: Arjuna Ranatunga (R2)

@VC the slogger
1678061382520.png

VC the slogger has this time picked someone very true to his own username: Romario Shepherd bowls a bit, but it best known for his biffing ability in the lower order.
1678061435551.png

2. :ind: :bat: Sourav Ganguly (R1)
8. :wi: :ar: Romario Shepherd (R2)

@Aravind.
1678061479249.png

Aravind goes with another all-round option early in the draft, this time David Willey will bat at number seven.

@ahmedleo414
1678061574614.png

This is already lining up to like a fearsome Test bowling attack, but one not out of place in one-dayers either.

8. :ind: :ar: Ravichandran Ashwin (R1)
11. :wi: :bwl: Courtney Walsh (R2)

"There's no place for fixers in my team."

4. :saf: :ar: Jacques Kallis (R1)

@Disharies
1678061769518.png

A fantastic player who some feel under-achieved, Cameron White will bat at six here. But will he have to bowl?

6. :aus: :bat: Cameron White (R2)

@pillowprocter

Procter pulled the very last pool of players, one which did not have the full ten players. Based on domestic stats, he decided Zubayr Hamza was the best bet.

Big 21st-century Indian vibes in this team.

@Till Valhalla

In a battle of the Davises, it was Winston who won out - his ODI seven-for just too impressive to ignore.

11. :wi: :bwl: Winston Davis (R2)

@mohsin7827
1678062197489.png

Andre Nel gets the nod here ahead of Ashish Nehra - the extra aggression clearly sets him apart.

There's never a bad time for some Welsh representation, and Alex Wharf will no doubt do Glamorgan proud here.

One of the finest Associate players of his generation, Paras Khadka will bat slightly lower than he's used to at number six.

Just asking should he got a reroll instead? As the draft is eleven to one, getting less players in pool before is like not helping.
Or is this something already discussed and I missed

Unfortunately not. This is just an example of someone getting hilariously bad RNG.

I really hope things pick up a bit for Procter in the coming rounds
