England in Australia

Can someone confirm Jones dismissal as I just cna't believe it. Did he really just stand outside his crease whilst waiting for a decision and get run out like that?

Why did it go so horribly wrong?

Harmison - it shouldn't have taken the coaching staff until the horror show at the Gabba to do something about him. He also bowled less than 200 overs leading up to the series.

Anderson - not enough cricket, simple as that. Didn't play a championship game until the last game of the season!

Giles - the poor bloke. Out for months on end, gets thrown in at the deep end when he clearly wasn't ready. Just to cap it all off he has to go home due to horrible circumstances.

Flintoff - not the right choice for captain, horribly out of form with the bat (despite todays effort) and still appears to be uncertain about his ankle which has led to his bowling not being as effective as needs to be. Another one who needed more cricket before the series started.

Jones - ge continues to throw his wicket away. Not doubting his talent, but you can't keep chucking your wicket away and expect to be picked. Time for a fresh face behind the stumps.

Not enough warm up matches - Flintoff, Anderson, Harmison, Giles and perhaps everyone other than Pietersen (!) needed more time out in the middle.

The batting - when it mattered, it wasn't good enough. The efforts in the fourth innings at Brisbane, first at Adelaide and the fourth in this match were good, but they weren't really going to chance the course of the games.

The selectors - the situation is becoming ridiculous now. The fact that the coach and captain are the ones who select the team on tour is causing some big problems. It needs to be a joint effort, rather than the two in Australia sticking two fingers up at Graveney and co.

Mike Hussey - where can we get one? :D

Congratulations Australia, by far the better team and a thoroughly deserved victory. Look forward to taking them off you again in 2009! ;)

His duck in the first innings was his first in test cricket would you believe!

Agreed about all the player analysis and about the warm up matches. England did perform strongly on at least 1-2 days of every test so far but the days where they actually mattered Australia were far too superior. Also so far in this series we have seen England choke several times. I am also looking forward to the 09 series (shame it is still 30 months away whilst the gap b/w this series and last series was only 14 months). It will be much more tighter and I'd actually say England are slight favourites if the likes of Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Hayden and Langer retire whilst I don't expect anyone from the England team to retire maybe with the exception of Giles :p

Very well done to the convicts, i mean Aussies ;)

Id know id gloat if we had won them so go ahead, but from personal experience you guys dont need no introduction :)

Its hard to choose a bright spark from England at the moment, id go with

Batting: Collingwood (Became a through and through test player this time around and has shaken off the tag of ODI specialist!)

Bowling: Flintoff/Panesar (Monty did so well in this match, but was in vian, Flintoff did his usual bowling display, wickets at vital times!)

I'd actually say Hoggard has been England's best bowler. His efforts in Adelaide was brilliant and was unlucky not to pick up a few more at Perth. Monty certainly was fantastic in the 3rd test and has shown he has the goods.

"Next time! You won't have Warne next time! You won't have Warne next time..."

I hope. ;)

I'm not going to be soppy and give my reviews on players yet because there is two 2 Tests still remaining for potential redemption. Can't say I didn't expect to be 3-0 down because I did, we picked the wrong captain. I'm quite happy to play a half-fit Vaughan because we desperatley need his captaincy. If we had Vaughan and Panesar for all 3 Tests, we wouldn't have lost the Ashes yet.

Can't take anything away from Australia, they won the sessions that mattered and that's why they have the urn.

well thats the end of that.

I think when people say the Aussie's "were more up for it", they forget that for 90% of their Team that was their last Ashes match. Obviously wanted to go out on a bang.

I think the main difference at the end of the daywas the bowling.

Englands bowlers were so underprepared and out of form, it meant we were never ableto put the Aussie batsmen under any pressure whatsoever.

30 months to the next ashes series?

Gives the Aussies 30 months to learn how to play swing bolwing :D

gojo and read? why:) man this is going to be a whitewash.
Came into this conversation late but said from day one that the poms should be playing Monty. He doesn't turn the ball hugely but is very skillful at flight and drift. Pity he's not a great batsman but he is working hard at it and will be reasonable one day. Cook is the one the English should be grooming as well. Freddie knows his stuff and will only get bettter. Harmo will not have a long career-he's too big and awkward even though he's a great bowler when his confidence is up.

KP for batting surely?

Well done Australia, best team won. GoJo got close to his double hundred as Matt said, he got two 0s he just need a 2 from somewhere! ;)

A collapse by the tail, no doubt Monty will be made the scapegoat if he already hasn't been.

The tail is a problem (compare the two teams tails) I think it's something we just have to live with, we strengthen the tail we weaken the bowling in all likeliness.

As I said best team won and it seems Fletch is under big pressure from the ECB, a good thing if he were to be sacked? Maybe after the WC? Or Before?

Australia were impressive with Hussey and Clark filling two big cracks from the last tour. :clap

As for England....

Some positives but more negatives.

KP has been faultless bar one shot, Bell has shown how much he's improved and Monty has shown that he is better than any other english spinner and in this game any other bowler and Cook coming to form.

Negatives......

Strauss, Jones, Harmison out of form but showing he's getting it sorted out at long last, Mahmood and Flintoff who despite good runs today I think he has to be relieved of the captaincy.

Well our next series is 11 months away so I think McGrath would be calling it a day after this Ashes series. We should be alright if we do lose both Langer and Hayden as Rogers and Jaques are ready made replacements assuming Jaques gets out of his form slump.

11 months?

Got no away tours, or is that an away tour?

He had two innings; There's the 2. ;)

I hope to God Fletcher doesn't bring Dalrymple in the squad for the Monty. Quite frankly though, I can see it happening.

MCG.

So then which Aussie can tell us what the pitch is like there? I know it's a big stadium 95k+.

Absolute road at the moment

And what better way is there to spend a Christmas night than by watching England comeback and rustle the Aussies for 47 all out?. ;)

My obscene prediction is now even more out of the question now.

why on earth would England replace Monty at this point? Over here a player gets a go until he has a string of poor perfomances and that's the way it should be. The poms have areally good side at the moment and I have heard a couple of whispers about a couple of upcoming players on the bowling and batting sides. leave well enough alone and allow the team to develop I reckon.
