England in India - Oct to Jan 2012/13

Then what was the point in saying 'Change the story to suit the situation'?

I just used your post as reference to what Indian fans tend to say and do these days, when things don't go the way they want it to go, they put together a story of awesomeness and tie everything down to one man, Dhoni(who just happens to be our captain).

Anyway, my team for the 1st Test:

1. V Sehwag/A Rahane
2. G Gambhir
3. C Pujara
4. S Tendulkar
5. V Kohli
6. Y Singh
7. MS Dhoni*?
8. R Ashwin
9. Z Khan/I Sharma
10. P Ohja
11. U Yadav

12. M Vijay

Sehwag did scored a hundred in the Ranji trophy game batting at 6. I know the bowling attack he faced was no match to England bowling but still it would have given his confidence a huge boost. He should be a bit more confident now and if he does well in the first test, we may see him in full flow in the coming games.

Can't blame the fans when the captain is biased towards some players.

All these theories of 'being biased' is purely speculative, based on the pattern of the selection of the XI. We don't know what's going on behind the scenes, how much say the captain has on the selection, who are all the people involved in the process, etc.

If you say that, then even Saurav Ganguly had his favorites and backed them to the hilt. Its just that his favorites clicked. If they hadn't clicked, Ganguly would have been as criticized as Dhoni.

Slightly concerned about the injury situation to Broad & Finn at this stage. The idea of both of them missing the first test although it won't be detrimental, is not ideal.

It dents the potency of the pace attack since they are first choice & their ability to reverse swing the ball. But Bresnan, Meaker and Onions can reverse it, so the depth is fine in that sense for the three lions.

So, what are the odds that when India next come to England they get a practice match against some U15 part time spinners on a pitch that turns sideways?

Happy is Finn does not play, he is your best fast bowler in my opinion and also a great team player.

They gave away 4 wickets to an unknown spinner, Yadav and Mishra the lead spinner also picked up 4 wickets. And all this on a green wicket that got better for batting. Really ominous signs!

Ashwin, Ojha and Yuvraj should be licking their lips. With Motera expected to be a spinning wicket, the stage is set. Hope now the Indian spinners don't get too overawed by England's struggles against spin, and that they just stick to their basics.

Well England were also 4/500 at one stage...and that's when Yadav took 3 quick wickets against the lower order, so lets not read too much into it. All the English batsmen got some good time in the middle. If England were REALLY awful against spin you'd think at least one of their top 7 would have failed - none did.

England again going with three seamers, although in Swann's absence it isn't too surprising, but what is is the excess use of seamers.

Onions/Bresnan/Meaker : 60-7-203-5 (Ave 40.60, SR 72.00)
Panesar/Patel : 44-12-88-3 (Ave 29.33, SR 88.00)

The most amazing thing is why Cook has decided to give Trott 3 overs?!?!? I sincerely hope that is just an aberration and not a bit of practice for bowling nothings during the series proper. Looks like it might be Anderson, Bresnan and Swann with Patel. I fear England will ignore Panesar and go with another seamer instead.
