England in India - Oct to Jan 2012/13

Thank god he looked in better touch at today's preparatory session. But still, you can't keep living on the edge as far as Zaheer goes. He is a very good bowler and has been one of India's best, but not the best ever (hell, he is not even India's best ever). I am a big fan of him too, but I feel time has come to look elsewhere.

BBC Sport - India v England: Monty Panesar must play - Rahul Dravid

Dravid basically saying England must play Panesar, and that bits n pieces players have little impact in India. I suspected a long time ago we'll go with Swann and Patel plus three seamers, England have long since been stuck in their fear of a seamer getting injured, with two spinners it shouldn't matter if one does.

Plan for things going normally, not exceptional circumstance/injury. If KP and Patel play as batsmen then England shouldn't need to worry about third seamers. It's also partly because England don't know which bowler will 'turn up' so they cover the options.

Ishant Sharma is sick and Dinda has been called in as a cover. I don't know why they have called Ashok Dinda when Ishant was not going to get selected in the first place.

England in India 2012-13 : England shrug off new R Ashwin mystery ball | Cricket News | India v England | ESPN Cricinfo

I really don't know why spinners do this. Mystery ball? You have one traditional off spin and then the carrom ball which turns the other way(kind of legbreak). Now what is mystery ball going to do? Turn both ways in a single delivery? But if they are doing it for mind game then IDK.

Despite not being a favorite to be in a starting XI, I would want Harbhajan to play the Ahmedabad test. Motera pitch has always had red sand on it and I've marked that Harbhajan becomes all the more lethal bowler on pitches with red sand on it.

I can't help but feel Monty will just get feasted on by the Indian batsman. He's struggled against the practice batsman as it is.

Still, we won't get to find out, as he probably won't play. At least with Samit they might try and hit him out the park and make a mistake. Monty is basically what they face week-in-week-out.

I think the whole warm-up part of the tour has bode pretty badly. Getting out whenever a spinner with any ability bowled whilst not exactly running through teams themselves with the quicks. No Finn will hurt as well.

Tendulkar and India will be liking this... Giving Tendulkar respect instead of firing up against him is what makes him 'not so strong'. When the opposition comes steaming at him, he fires himself up and gets headlong into the battle. This might not be the right tactic for England to follow. He didnt have a great series in England where we lost 4-0. So their respect tactic has been working. Why change it now when it ain't broken?

I hear Warne used to do it every Summer, just how the spinners have fun I suppose. :p

Tbh, I'm a bit worried about the no DRS thing, because IIRC it played a huge part in that PAK-ENG series in the UAE, we'll see how it goes.

I can see the English batsman's bat and pad technique not hurting them quite as much without the DRS in play. Although they'll have to be able to get the ball off the square for it to matter.

Final hour before registrations close for the fantasy cricket game. I thought we'd easily get 20 for this one, so let's see if a late flourish is possible.

Register here and good luck :thumbs

Ah bugger. India to bat first. Well, that's England 1-0 down then :p

Hah, predictable XI from both sides, pitch to play a big part I hope.

Sehwag and Gambhir are out(on the field) there, good luck to those two, do us proud guys.
