England in India - Oct to Jan 2012/13

I think you have to go to India with tall bowlers, but be prepared to be boring, block up areas like 3rd man, have catching men in the covers and bowl heaps of cutters. History says that 2 quicks and 2 spinners just does not defeat India at home.

Shravi - did you follow the game when RD was commentating? Pretty excited when he did! He was sharing dressing room stuff about what he used to do when Sehwag batted, how he prepared for his innings, etc.

Hope we get to hear more of him...

Unfortunately I missed the first 15 overs because I forgot the test was starting today. He's on now with Shastri and Ganguly.

I hate Shastri too. Cocky little ----. Has a sense of entitlement and a very annoying voice. Makes every ball seem like the best thing since sliced bread. Also a little too in love with the Indian team. There's patriotic and supporting your team, and then there's just plain annoying.

Dravid and Ganguly in the same comm box, how wonderful.

Ah, is that Shastri I hear in the background, please kerpluck off, sir.

I don't think I've ever been quite so bored by someone scoring at above 5 an over. So little batting skill on show.

When the pitch is making it so easy, why do you need to show unnecessary special batting skills? And don't generalize the word. Without batting skills, you can't have a player playing international cricket. You are looking for some special batting skills that impresses you.... Well you might find it when England come out and start batting.:rolleyes

Dravid is starting off, so he obviously sounds jerky and rough with his commentary. I am not sure if this attempt by him is for a longer term or just for the short term. But if its for the long term, I am sure he will improve. And once he does, he will be a delight to listen. A highly thinking guy and always a delight to listen to. Both him and Saurav are good talkers.

Sai, to be fair, it really isn't that hard to score runs on this pitch. This is just getting ridiculous now. Atrocious pitch. I much prefer square turners. Dustbowl from day 1 is much more preferable to this, and India would still win.

^ This. Ideally you'd get a fair balance between bat and ball, one that tests the skills of the batsman against seam, bounce, speed, variable bounce, spin, etc. But if you can't get that, then you should at least prepare a pitch that tests the skills of the batsman against something!

As Shravi said, if this was a square turner, then fair enough. There has to be something out there. If I wanted to watch this Sai, then I'd watch an ODI and it would be over in 50 overs.

There's no technique, no skill, just plant on the front foot and swing the bat. Test cricket should never be about just bowling to contain on the first morning of a test match.

Funny tweet - England are sorely missing the DRS. If it were there, they'd have perhaps reversed India's decision to bat first.

:lol

Amazing crowd for the test match. 120-0 is super awesome, beating all critics. I hope both Sehwag and Gambhir go on to make high scores, especially Sehwag, who has excellent chance of making yet another 150+ to his name.

Bresnan v Sehwag- the contest was sexy.

It's this attitude that will one day kill test cricket :(

How so? It was rather one-sided...

Agree with Shastri and Sanjay being idiots. Anyone else feel the same about Harsha? That guy gets on my nerves! Sourav is pretty good and Dravid is his usual gentleman self.

Agree about the pitch being boring too. Yes, it's great to see both the openers score runs for a change but, Test matches need to have something in it for the bat and ball. No.wonder our batsmen struggle overseas where there is just a bit more bounce. I would love if we prepare pitches with some life in them at home and challenge our abilities. That is the only way we can improve.

Recently heard in a Ranji match, a team scored around 750 runs and UP captain Raina criticized the pitch for being lifeless. We need to start at lower levels..
