England in India - Oct to Jan 2012/13

If Sehwag was the replacement, thank god Dhoni wasn't replaced. I don't know who the successor will be, but Sehwag is not it IMO. Not a long term option and his captaincy tends to be just like his batting - all or nothing.
That's what I thought after I read that piece in the newspaper today. Tbh, I will persist with Dhoni. This situation is perfect for anyone to resign and just be in the team as a player and let all the criticism which is on an Indian captain pass. But, Dhoni hasn't done that and has said he will not shy away from his responsibility which I think is very good of him. We are struggling yes but to blame it all on Dhoni is stupid. I hope the players pick themselves up and put up a better performance. Thing is do they have any drive to do so? Well, we can only hope there is...

If this is the case about changing captaincy to Dhoni to Viru, i seriously think that Viru is under-performing. I know some might think its nonsense, but I feel something is really fishy about Viru's form. He plays well when Dhoni was rested and then again under-performs.

Sounds like Finn is a doubt for the final test. Meaker or Onions?

Think it'll be Bresnan in the end...

Tim Bresnan is the likely replacement for Finn. Bresnan was dropped after a disappointing performance in the first Test in Ahmedabad but, with his ability to bat and his experience, is likely to be preferred to Graham Onions, who has struggled for rhythm in his few opportunities on the tour.

The England Performance Programme (EPP) squad is currently in Pune, but there are no plans to call-up a substitute for Broad or Finn. Stuart Meaker, who was called up as cover for Finn and Broad earlier in the tour, joined the EPP squad ahead of the Kolkata Test and is not with the Test squad.

@Haari - Bres just didn't look like taking wickets in the first test but then again neither did any of the England seamers. Hopefully Finn will be ok...

I know, it's just the nature of the English selectors to go with the best batsmen among the 2 seamers available (Meaker not even with the test squad, leaving us only with Onions and Bresnan) when they're in a dilemma. Of course need to hope Finn's alright!

Dhoni miffed with Gambhir, complains to BCCI : Cricketnext

I really hope that I could punch Dhoni right on his face now.

Where the kerpluck is this ---- coming from? If he is not satisfied with Gambhir then why is he defending him here?

England in India 2012-13 : India have the character to bounce back - Dhoni | Cricket News | India v England | ESPN Cricinfo

Gautam Gambhir got Dhoni's vote of confidence too. "About Gautam, the best thing I like about him is he is an aggressive character," Dhoni said. "I always talk about it. I have played with him a lot. If you see the last few games, he has batted really well, he has taken time. There is a lot of improvement in his batting. I feel whenever he is aggressive - by aggressive I don't mean stepping out and hitting the ball, it's more about positively defending a ball, because that can be an aggressive mindset. He has been batting well in the last few games. It's an ideal setup, this is a big game, he is a big-game player. He can transform starts into a big innings."

I don't know even know where to start. Where was this Amarnath and these other ex players when we won the first test in Ahmedabad. One or two loss can do so much wrong for a captain. They are saying that Gambhir should be the captain and complaining about Dhoni's performance at the test level. When did Gambhir score his last century? He is also not scoring runs, why don't they see that. Some are suggesting to promote Virat as a captain. Virat hasn't looked good to me in test format yet. As I have said before that he is one of the best shorter format player going around but currently it looks like he just does not have enough patience to do well in test cricket. So far the way he has got out in the series is mostly because of his poor shot selection. Again, I am not against Kohli and I really want him to do well because he is one of the main Indian player for future but his current form clearly shows that he still needs some time to settle in. I also heard Amarnath saying that Kohli should captain ODI team. Now what wrong has Dhoni done in ODI's? His five consecutive appearance in ICC's ODI team of the year? Kohli is doing very well in ODI's but there is no need to remove Dhoni as a captain in ODI at least when he is doing so well. I still think we need Dhoni for one or two years in test cricket until someone like Kohli gets settle into the team well enough to take the captaincy from him and we find a good enough replacement for Dhoni as a wicketkeeper.

I just heard Kapil Dev talking on a news channels. He said "This is the time to get the team together and support them to perform well in the final test rather then blaming a certain individual for his performance or questioning them about their place in the team."

EDIT: Aaaah User2010, you were a bit faster then me.

We need Finn to be fit. I think the selectors will go for Bresnan, I would personally give Onions a go. What about 3 spinners and bringing Tredwell in?
