England In India - October 2011/12

Ok, so on what basis did Erasmus give Dravid out? Snicko is not part of the DRS, it takes at least 5 minutes to prepare snicko and nothing showed on hot spot.

Decent total I think.

So firstly he is overruling the on field umpires decision and than he is overruling the HOTSPOT TECHNOLOGY.

Awesomeness.

:facepalm

Hotspot is an aid not a definitive, it's been proven on numerous occasions that it's poor on small edges. Which is why the 3rd umpire uses all aids to build a picture. There was a clear sound, he edged it, Snicko confirmed the decision and Dravid will probably say later that he nicked it like he did in one of the Tests.

Decent total by India, good to see England getting a tough total to chase.

Than why are they using it? And forcing others to do the same?

Rohit fractures his finger. Oh lord, another replacement.

Because it is still useful in other scenarios, like bat pads, gloves down the leg side, etc.

The whole point of the system is that you use several aids to build up evidence (Audio, visual, hotspot, slow-mo, different angles, etc), something like audio is always going to outweigh hotspot, just because it has more weight than others, doesn't mean those others aren't useful and beneficial to the system.

I don't think you are making any effort to make sense. If you scrap every technology when it fails to help, then:
- when a patient dies, you would bulldoze the hospital;
- when one car crashes or breaks down, you would scrap them all and make everyone walk.

This was a correct decision by the DRS, and that's what the DRS is for. Sometimes it makes right decisions that don't suit my team, but I don't criticize them because making the right decision is what's important.

Wow one day Indians do good and it rains :D The stars are shining for England....

Btw day by day it seems like Indian stand on DRS is being proved right. Two controversial decisions against dravid and Taufel not happy with Hawk eye.

I think Taufel is asking them to either use it completely with everything being consistent at every place or not use it at all.

Exactly.

Sri Lanka v Australia, 1st Test, Galle: Umpires ask ICC to look in to Hughes' dismissal | Cricket News | Sri Lanka v Australia | ESPN Cricinfo

Simon Taufel said:
"Therein lies the challenge of consistency - how can you possibly expect consistent outputs if you've got inconsistent inputs? We've also noticed the players are somewhat confused as to what they can challenge and what they can't. In the UK they couldn't challenge lbws, they could only challenge caught decisions. Here we've gone back to a different system where you can challenge both.

"Surely that's got to be difficult for the players and the match officials to keep adjusting from series to series. Our message as umpires was rather strong at the ICC cricket committee meeting where we said, we either want to use everything or nothing at all, let's try to make it consistently easier for everybody. That's what we want to work towards."

England require another 197 runs with 8 wickets and 24.4 overs remaining

That's a RRR off 7.98 an over to start with Bell & Trott at the crease. Where's KP when you need him?

Point is Sai, if an Indian mate, or anyone calls you a 'ghada' how seriously are you going to take it?

Cricket please.

Very seriously. I would take it offensively even if a friend who calls me ghada (I would give him the benefit of doubt and ask him not to repeat it again, but for me and for many in India, its offensive).

@Themer: Try adding something better to the argument. I am *not* running a comedy circus here.

Back to the cricket, having so so so so much fun watching the DRS stumble big. Keep that going, I would say. If at all the BCCI did good in one thing, its rejecting the Hawk Eye part of DRS. Maybe they should have stuck to their original stance of avoiding DRS altogether. Its a waste of time! The purpose of the DRS is to eliminate howlers. Well, YOU STILL GET HOWLERS!!!!:lol:lol:lol As usual, one group of people will now keep their rant going about how it eliminates major decisions blah blah blah and how the BCCI is trying to show its muscle power etc.

This!!:cheers Spending so much money on a technology that's not 100% (well Hot Spot needs to be 100% because when its not, its a waste of money and resources). First the vaseline accusation, now this. WOW! Utter crap!

Illogical argument. You are comparing necessities with luxuries. Car and hospitals are more absolute necessities than luxuries. And why would someone scrap cars just because one car breaks down, when we have so many options among cars? But do we have the same amount of options in the DRS? Don't try throwing in unrelated examples to boost your point.

Good innings from Parthiv, Rahane and Kohli. Parthiv has been excellent for quite sometime now in ODI's and has served superbly as backup. Rahane has impressed mightily in his first two innings in intl cricket. Hope these two carry on their work and try to displace the slackers in our team in the future. But looks like India might have to wait for their first international game win on this tour.
