Montenegro 1-1 Bulgaria FT .
Result ends England's way .
And enough with this 'tired' nonsense,
The tiredness argument for English players going into tournaments has merit since EURO 2000. Although its not the main reason why England do bad in tournaments.
- Overhyped media expectation in this country
- The talented players actually chocking on the world stage while wearing ENG shirt compared to their clubs
- Various coaches making tactical errors (Capello's 4-4-2 flop in 2010, Sven playing Scholes out left in EURO 04, McClaren's 3-5-2 disaster in Zagreb 2008 come to mind).
But fact is no other major European nation in tournaments since EURO 2008 have had a consistent amount of key players out injured like England.
WC 2002. England lost Neville & Gerrard, while Beckham played not 100%
EURO 04. No one went into the tournament injured. But we had in tournament injuries to Terry & Rooney.
WC 2006. Both Neville, Rooney & Owen had major injuries going into the cup.
EURO 08. More than half of the 1st team players was out injured when Croatia knocked us out of EURO 08 qualifiers.
WC 2010. Ferdinand, Rooney, King, Beckham, Barry, Hargreaves, Walcott all suffered crucial injuries leading up to the cup/during the cup after doing well in the qualifiers.
You check the injury records for the likes of Spain, Germany, Portugal, Italy, France to their key players going into tournaments in the last decade & none have such issues.
Also apart from Owen and Becks I don't think any player has come anywhere close to winning a Ballon D'or.
Wasnt lampard the runner up in 2005?
Yeah like it says in the post above yours.
Mainly the first two reasons. Players have not proved their talent in the international stage in the big games. Being good for club is just not good enough.
Also apart from Owen and Becks I don't think any player has come anywhere close to winning a Ballon D'or.
