England National football team thread

Maybe if they'd put that winter break in we wouldn't have these kind of dilemmas.

But typical English, stick to tradition, innit 'bruv?

Winter break & scrapping of the Carling Cup.

Or just take the Premiership sides out of it. Two domestic cups for a country is unneccesary IMO.

Ye that could work too. FA Cup & Premiership is enough. Thats the one problem with the money that is in the English game, the players play too much. Its ridiculous that a winter break wasn't introduced immediately this season after the WC disaster.

England this decade since WC 2002, always go into tournaments with some major player out injured are going into the tournament just barely recovered from an injury. We never seem to able to take out 23 best players fit after a season compared to other EURO giants.

Another good game from Wembley yet again. Capello's choice of wingers especially Walcott was pretty strange.

Not too bothered about England's performance today. Could have easily won if Bent had buried that easy chance.

Definitely some late season tiredness crept in. The 4-3-3 was as fluid moving together as in the recent Wales & Denmark games. The sort of reminds me of the year 2009/10 season friendly international vs Holland that also ended 2-2:

Just as today, in that game England gave away two ridiculous early goals (Terry/Ferdinand @ the back both times :lol) & did well to come back & should have won. The Holland game was early season rustiness & todays game was late season tiredness.

I already am nervous about EURO 2012 though & how England may perform already. Tiredness will be a factor & i dread the fact that some important player will not be in the 23-man squad. Having a winter break next season will help alot in reducing those outcomes though. The FA needs to stand up.

Another point is the "lack of Wembley fact" in this new Wembley stadium. I heard one of the ITV commentators say at the end of the game that..."England have now failed to win 4 in a row at Wembley, longest run without a win at Wembley in 30 years since 5 from March to May 1981."

The New Wembley seems to inspire opposition teams to do well, since they see it as one of world great stadiums. Instead of an stadium with hostile/intimating atmosphere like the Old Wembley certainly was.
