England National football team thread

The three likely English candidates are Redknapp, Hodgson and Allardyce. Of those three Redknapp wins by a landslide.

If by chance they go foreign again, i think the best choice is Hiddink.

Allardyce? No. I don't think so Allardyce would be a good option.

Redknapp is the best option.

BBC Sport - Fabio Capello demands a 'confident' England

Highly perplexing that Capello is even considering SWP again, how is it not redundantly clear that he is a joke at international level?. Martin Samuel said it best recently:

Wright choice?

A definition of madness is repeating an action, time and again, yet expecting different results.
It is worrying that England manager Fabio Capello is believed to be once more considering Shaun Wright-Phillips for selection against Montenegro next week.

Wright-Phillips is a good club player who has represented England every year from 2004 to 2010 and played for three England managers, but repeatedly comes up just short of the standard for the highest level of international football.

He is undoubtedly doing well at QPR this season, but what has really changed?

BBC Sport - Rio Ferdinand left out of England squad for Montenegro

Basically the best possible squad with Gerrard, Wilshire, Rio, Cleverley out injured. Thank god the didn't call up SWP.

Only thing I would have maybe done different was Lescott in for Jaigelka and Defoe for Zamora.

Will be interesting to see how he lines up the mid-field, especially after Lampard's hat-trick.

Hopefully no-one pulls out of the squad, Parker especially looked in a bit of trouble at the end of the Arsenal/Tottenham game.

A couple of decent games don't entitle a player to selection for England.

Leaving out Lescott is ridiculous. I think he's been brilliant for 6 months and I really wasn't a fan of him before.

Ye, but you could argue that Wilshiire got a call-up based on the same time period to England couple months ago based on similar periods.

Like Wilshire, Sturridge had a excellent loan season with Bolton - then started the new season with their in impressive fashion.

The only difference is that England's mid-field post 2010 World-Cup, needed someone like Wilshire to add some creativity to it. But right now alot of very good strikers and wingers are in form in England - so in a way Sturridge missing out right now is understandable from Capello.

True but then tell me, what has Andy Carroll done to get into the England squad? Welbeck may have done well for United this season but so has Sturridge and he has been performing well all year long. Zamora being picked is also a mystery really.

Yeah, don't really see the point of Zamora, he's the wrong side of 30. He can "do a job" but he's never been that talented a striker anyway.

With England virtually qualified, Capello should be looking to the future and the likes of Sturridge should be bedded into the England set-up.

Well it's not like I support the inclusion of Andy Caroll either!!
