England National football team thread

Thus highlighting the delusional nature of English football fans. I... mean... we don't even have a manager haha

Not moaning about how they do though? More the delusional lies that accompany it.

No one in Scotland thinks they'll win the World Cup, or are one of the best teams in the world who have only not won a major tournament because they've been unlucky for 30 years. No, people accept they're crap.

Haha, oh yeah, I've left out the two tournaments since 1990 that England didn't even qualify for.... What a footballing nation :D

I'm reluctant to make this point because on the whole, I think foreign players do benefit the league, but "english" grit? 4 english players started for chelsea, 1 was off in 25 minutes and another almost cost them the tie with a piece of stupidity.

I actually think this playing into the idea of being gritty types is one of englands problems. rooney, lampard, gerard, scholes, beckham, ferdinand did not need to turn up with a "rah rah, all for one boys!" attitude which results in them running around like headless chickens, they are class players, they should have gotten on with being classy.

people often said there are too many superstars in englands team and they all play for themselves, I really don't see that, I think they all play far too much for the team. I distinctly remember several occassions at the world cup where english players known for taking on their man or belting a goal in opted for a square pass, such was the terror of being seen to value oneself over the national team. rooney should be getting preferential treatment and playing with a bit of ego, he's one of the best strikers in the world for gods sake, what's the point in having him spend the match tracking back just because it makes the team seem gritty?

always said it but the best manager for england would have been fergie, and that's not just because ferguson is an obvious choice as the best manager ever. he'd have them ignoring the media hype, telling the journo's where to go and have got them playing for themselves, not some overblown patriotic ideal.

not that I'll mind one bit if they turn up and repeat all those mistakes again obviously ;)

oh and team GB can gtf.

Anyone think we could get Guardiola after he announces his supposed departure tomorrow? Don't know if he could turn the team to play his passing game, and I'm not too sure i would want him to

Excellent decision. He's tactically in a different league to Harry.

Although nice of the FA to let it drag on until 2 games left of the season before they mention anything :rolleyes

Right decision. Not a lot of choice for the FA but Hodgeson is better than Harry. Didn't he get sacked by Liverpool for doing a better job than King Kenny is doing?
