England Team Discussion

Bold call, which is why England will never do it. Although I must admit I've never rated Beer a great deal but I could be letting his championship performances taint him in my mind. He's also a leg spinner, and that's another reason why he should be considered, because leg spinners have been doing well in recent years in T20s and also because legspinners are the best type of bowling and even a crap leg spinner makes things a little interesting...

That is my current way of thinking and the team I would have sorry its not upto your standards or seen as bizarre but we can't all be experts I didn't know that I had to look at the history books before picking a team.

You said that we should "ease in" a new player by playing him at six while picking another debutant to open! Like whether someone's played test cricket before isn't something that you should need the "history books" to go check!

and they should keep Lumb around for T20s, if only because he's a good T20 player and there's a world cup next March so he still can contribute to something important.

@The Author, interesting that you put Jack Brooks in the team. I brought him up in another thread a few days ago but had no reply. I saw the wickets he took against Hampshire and instantly quite liked what I saw. Checked out his stats and to me seems that he could push on internationally. Apparently a bit of a character but know little else about him. Can you add any more information?

The point I was trying to make is a simple one and there are examples of where it has gone wrong Compton, Carberry, Robson. Hales has experience in international cricket in other formats and so has Ali. Its more the typical thing that England do Cook is the opener so they resolve to find an opening partner yet don’t realise the media pressure or the new stress put on a debutant opening. And I kept Bell in the team because it doesn’t really matter how bad he plays they never drop him. Hales and Ali have a wider shot range than Cook and can improvise at the crease more, Ballance could rotate and open with either so you have a more aggressive style of play that’s what I want to see and so could Lyth once he adapts.

So instead put in 2 players who aren't currently fc openers to open against the new ball...?

Assuming KP is never going to play for us again, I'd go for

1. Hales
2. Ali
3. Vince
4. Root
5. Stokes
6. Morgan
7. Buttler
8. Woakes
9. Jordan
10. Willey
11. Briggs

12. Roy
13. Beer
14. Bresnan
15. Rankin

Ye I like this non KP team for now, although i think i might have Bopara over either Vince or Roy initially. Also instead of two spinners in squad, i'd pick spin-bowling all-rounder Zafar Ansari.

Also the slight problem with such a a team is obvious lack of fast bowler, that is a strike bowler. Nor is the main spinner a serious wicket-taking threat - so either Rankin starts or back Finn again.

Just picked a team and because it hasn’t been tested is an instant fail well ok it clear its not liked. So what do I do change it to Cook and Lyth because they are the only ones to choose from? Root was an opener but not currently opening for England is this a problem too?

:mad Is there any point to this website I’m not sure, well its pissed me off.

This thread is England team discussion but it’s like if you think of team do your homework or say something we all can have a **** over. Otherwise there will be someone there pointing out well you cant do this or well this is nonsense I know more about cricket than you ever will. Then some other idiot comes in and thanks him, thanks him for what? That he looked up some stats (google) or that he is up his own arse. Then its take turns in pulling down an idea to say well we really showed him a thing or two. I don’t know way too much negative input or people thinking they know everything, waiting for a comment to critic . It couldn’t be a case of well I see your team mate but its not for me, instead of over analysing and saying your wrong? Then the ass licking begins, really not sure what is gained here other than egos.

at the end of the day who really cares who opens the batting its not like its happening in real life is it ffs.

Saw a replay highlights on sky of this game and the performances of Will Beer and Mills were particularly. Mills bowled with real pace that everyone knows he has and some notable control. The sooner he replicated that control in the longer formats, he will be in the England team before summer.

Beer could actually be a useful T20 leg-spinner option also, will be keeping on his form in the T20 blast.

Keith Barker another player worth looking at.

I'd like to see Mills given the opportunity, due to my fondness of lefties being one myself and that it would give England something completely different in pace bowling options which is what we are severely lacking.

That's how a discussion forum works. People discuss things. Did you expect to post your team and us all to come along and agree with you?

Good call @War with Mills.

No skater I didn’t expect that everyone would agree with me but I didn’t expect everyone to turn into Andy Gray either.
