England Team Discussion

He been consistently the most economical bowler in list A and t20 cricket in England for two or three years now.
He can't cut it at international level though.

There's a case to be made for Farbrace continuing as coach. His success with Sri Lanka was based upon a more hands-off approach, the same kind of approach which is allowing the likes of Stokes to flourish here. It looks like a welcome relief from the stifling influence of Moores.

Sam billings as wicket keeper and move Buttler up the order? Buttler isn't a bad keeper but is a really talented batsman. Chris Rushworth what has he done wrong is it his age keeping him out of the setup? not sure..

And 2nd the call up of Tymal Mills (Limited overs) we could do with a left hand bowler with pace.

Billings hasn't made a 50 yet this season has be? Probably not proved himself at all enough in fc cricket to deserve a place in the test team yet really.

Rushworths issue is that age is not on his side and he's just another of what we've already got which we've always just used Onions for.

Mills I don't agree with personally, you can't pick someone because they're fast when theyre struggling to get wickets at county level on a consistent basis.

Guess you guys haven't heard that Tymal Mills has been diagnosed with a congenital back condition. His career sadly, looks over.

Has that changed since last week? Because I read that he isn't up to First Class cricket any more, but is still going to play One Day and T20 cricket.

That's a genuine question by the way.

Rushworth just bowls 80mph wobblers, which is very effective on First Class pitches in April and May. He would get hammered at Test level.

Sam Billings needs to prove he can score runs in red ball cricket before coming into the test side. Think he's behind Bairstow and Davies if Buttler were to get injured.

This Tymal Mills obsession that many people have amazes me. He's been a totally crap first class cricket so far. He bowls marginally quicker than somebody like Boyd Rankin, but Mills gets far greater attention, despite the fact Rankin actually takes wickets.

I think England might be getting close to knowing their best eleven. Stokes was amazing at 6 today. There are two spots that are close to being settled and one that is still totally up for grabs.

The two that are almost settled are 4 and 8. Bell isn't in great form, which kills me as a big fan of his. I think he's got enough credit in the bank to get the whole Ashes though. Ali bowled so much better in this test than he did in the Carribbean. He can be such a dangerous number 8 batsman, but if he can bowl to a decent standard, he'll continue to keep Rashid out of the side.

The place that's still totally wide open is Cook's opening partner. If Lyth bags two low scores in the next test, I wonder if they'll be tempted to go back to Compton, or take a huge risk and pick Hales.

Hasn't Carberry outscored Compton so far this season (2nd leading div 1 run scorer last time I check I think after Hales?)? Don't think they'd go back to either of them personally in reality.

Compton is miles better than Carberry. That's one think KP and I do agree on.

He did say that he would be looking to play shorter forms but it sounded more hopeful than anything else. As it is spine that is the issue it doesn't seem wise to be putting it under stress.

Would playing these forms of cricket at first class level pay enough to cover future possible medical expenses and would a club be willing to take the risk knowing what the implications may be? Guess it's too early to say at the moment but it doesn't sound good.

Well I would have to agree with you about Rushworth. Billings I suppose would be more ODI than test to keep wicket while Buttler went up the order. Its more his age over Bairstow and Davies that I was thinking. Bairstow looked at bit floored at international level with his batting.

Compton another player to disappear in the England Bermuda triangle and to be fair he was a decent batsman just given a very short time to prove it. I would imagine Lyth would be given some more time and hope he can get some runs.[DOUBLEPOST=1432575324][/DOUBLEPOST]

I can’t see Carberry realistically coming back into the England team now unfortunately his chance came and went. In my opinion a decent average county player that is experienced.

Been impressed by Farbrace so far and chances are they will sack him now. Think we have progressed more under him than we ever did with Moore’s.

Well, rumours are that Bayliss is set to be given the job and he worked with Farbrace at Sri Lanka I believe, so I expect he'll stay on.

Hmmm not too sure about having an Aussie in charge of the English team, I mean have Australia ever employed an Englishman to work within their set up???

Great performance by England but it has to be said that was a very under cooked New Zeland team with a lack of cricket and partly fitness issues meant they couldn't kill the game off then got exposed
