England Team Discussion

Well, rumours are that Bayliss is set to be given the job and he worked with Farbrace at Sri Lanka I believe, so I expect he'll stay on.
There was talk of Gillespie, who has done great things with Yorkshire but I really don’t think having an Australian as head coach of England is the best idea.

Michael Vaughn I think would do a good job but has made home at channel 5 with old Boycott. Mark Nicholas there is something not right with him every shot he says is fabulous or sparkling not good words and Hughes when he does his demonstrations just looks like a prat.

Well done cook a great achievement but i still think gooch was the better player, modern day pitches are much flatter and we play alot more cricket these days. Also if KP had still been playing.......

All of England's flaws have been woefully exposed this test. We seem to be back to square one. Bells awful form continues, Ballance has lead feet, lack of a good spinner, bowlers who don't appear to know what length to bowl according to the conditions or how to bowl to the tail, far too missed opportunities in the field, added to a captain who appears to let others dictate. Bayliss has got a lot of work to do, all my earlier optimism regarding the Ashes has since evaporated.

Well at least Cook is back in nick. I have a feeling though that Ballance will be dropped for the Ashes...

And that would be the wrong thing to do. The guy came into Test cricket like a train, you don't drop him as soon as he hits a rough patch.

There seems to be a feeling of fear amongst some about the Australians arriving. They are good but they are not that special.

Yeah Cook getting in form is a positive for sure, he should definitely just stick with test cricket.

As for Ballance, I really can't see how he has scored so many runs in the county circuit. He bats like he has been brought up in Aussie conditions not English ones. Surely bowlers must have sussed out that he was susceptible to full deliveries or has something changed in his technique to create this flaw? I said during the first test that I didn't want him to be dropped yet he's got out a further two times in exactly the same fashion. Maybe England will persevere with him for the one day series in an attempt to sort this and hopefully get his confidence back up.

England ODIs squad :

Eoin Morgan (capt)
Sam Billings
Jos Buttler
Steven Finn
Alex Hales
Chris Jordan
Liam Plunkett
Adil Rashid
Joe Root
Jason Roy
Ben Stokes
James Taylor
David Willey
Mark Wood

Something like :

Hales
Roy
Taylor
Root
Stokes
Morgan
Buttler
Rashid
Plunkett/Willey
Jordan
Wood

At a guess?

Willey will play for the left arm variation, and Id say they might go with Finn over Jordan, he was looking good against Warwickshire this week, and Morgan at 5 above Stokes

But that has the look of a exciting young side. Bats very deep, so no excuse for not going for it, Willey opens for Northants in the Blast, Wood looked decent

Still cocncerned about the bowling, Stokes has to bowl his 10, or you start needing over from Root, Moeen in for one of the batters would balance the team a lot better, but itd be Morgan who gets dropped which just wont happen

Willey would be a good about, I guess they'll asses Finn again and see if he's got back closer to what he was. Willey as a left armer is a decent shout, just hope he doesn't end up in another Stoke situation playing a different role to in his county.

Stokes, Buttler and Morgan you'd presume would be a hopefully flexible area of the lineup dependant on where we are in the game.

Gotta say, that's a pretty weak squad. The team you picked seems very likely but surely Rashid has gotta get a chance to play, after all these years and all those county performances.

I'm glad Taylor is back and he has to be treated right by the selectors. The bowling seems very underwhelming to me, if New Zealand's best team is picked and they aren't too faded from the test series, then I can see them hammering England.

I'd go with

1. Hales
2. Roy
3. Taylor
4. Root
5. Stokes
6. Morgan
7. Buttler
8. Willey
9. Rashid
10. Jordan
11. Wood

I think Morgan should bat at 6. He and Buttler are world class finishers. Stokes is more likely to score big hundreds in my opinion, so get him up the order.

I'm slightly worried that Stokes pretty much has to bowl his 10, so I'd probably pick Ali in the long run ahead of Taylor or Roy.

Think the selectors have pretty much picked the best bowlers though. When Woakes is fully fit, he'd probably be in instead of Plunkett, but I certainly wouldn't go back to Broad or Anderson.
