The three young Somerset boys; Lewis Gregory, Jamie Overton and Craig Overton keep on putting in consistent performances. I wonder if any if them make the ODI squad. Won't be long before they are big players in the team.

I think we are in a really good situation now where the best ODI eleven is also the best T20 team. I'd probably have Broad and Wood in ahead of Plunkett and Woakes normally but I think they need a break before the Pakistan series.

I know people will question my inclusion of Bopara but I still maintain that he didn't do a lot wrong in the last 2 years and was batting way down the order far too often. He bats at 3 for Essex and is a consistent run scorer. He is also when of the most under-rated bowlers in the county game. He has stats to equal people like Broad and Finn, and put in another good spell in Essex's quarter final last week.

He wouldn't make my starting eleven but he's a great squad player to have around.

Interesting Lions squad for the T20s in Dubai. Surprised by a few names. How the hell is Sam Northeast not in the squad?

Jake Ball has modest county stats, but I've seen a bit of him on TV and looks handy.

Joe Clarke is a real surprise. I'd never heard of him. What a start he's had to county cricket though. Great numbers. Ross Whitely is another batter I know nothing about. Seems to be a real t20 specialist. Diabolical first class and list A stats, but a t20 batting index of over 180.

Good idea this tour though. We might need some of these guys in the t20 WC.

Sky Sports have out together a team they think will play the next Ashes test in Brisbane.

They think Anderson won't quite make it as he'll be 35 and that Willey is the replacement swing bowler. I'm not sure Willey is a good enough bowler to be honest. I'd rather see a someone like Woakes, Wood, Gregory, Overton or Harris.

I've never seen Sam Hain play live, but all I hear good things. Another one that got away from the Aussies. I hope he's more successful than Sam Robson.

Been poor with the bat this year in the Championship, so I can only assume he's been chosen for bowling alone, which is crazy. Would rather see Kerrigan back if they want a left armer.

I'm very surprised. Never thought I'd see him in an England shirt again. I though that Liam Dawson was the obvious choice if Ansari was ruled out.

While i share sentiments of surprise that Patel has been picked, its probably not one of those selections that doesn't mean much.

We all know the quality of spin option in county cricket is crap. Ansari was selected mainly for developmental purposes because he has always looked like a player who could develop into international quality - he was never really likely to play, although there were scenario's where you could have picked him.

Liam Dawson who is the other similar like-for-like replacement to Ansari looks very much like a county cricketer - so from that perspective I could sort of see why the selectors went for Patel.

I first heard about this through the WhatsApp group and at first thought it was a windup but when it sinks in the feeling is similar to when you open a present and find a pair of socks.
