England tour of South Africa 09/10

Just noticed Bell has got out to 5 different bowlers on the tour so far. At centurion he got to Harris and De Wet. At Durban he got out to Steyn, and at Newlands he fell to Kallis and Morkel :laugh. Still class though

On the qualification issue, my feeling is players should be forced to declare their nationality at 16 and not be allowed to change their minds. It's too much who they are good enough to be picked for rather than what nationality they are. You can sympathise if their native country doesn't play Test cricket, but this isn't club cricket where you can choose who you play for then move to a better offer etc.

In an ideal world only pure English (born, bred, never left England) would play for England, but it's not an ideal world. Just like in an ideal world all Liverpool FC players would be born, bred and never left Merseyside. Let's just accept they want to play cricket and have made their choices.

On the contrary, I'd like to see nationalism broken down in places where it still means too much. Imagine Pakistan-born cricketers playing for India. By comparison, anything going on between England and South Africa is utterly inconsequential.

In an ideal world the ICC wouldn't have let the SACB get away with racial discrimination within their domestic and international set-ups, but hey ho.

Cricketers switching nationalities/playing for "not their original country" has been going on pretty much from the 1st test. Besides, humans can be defined by their mass immigration. World wouldn't exist without it. Cricket certainly wouldn't.

I was looking through Bell's stats, and i found when playing under Strauss as captain he averages 54.82 in 12 games with 5 100's. So 5 out of 9 100's were under Strauss. Who says he's ████ :laugh

Also don't expect many runs from Bell this test match. He scored 153 runs in 7 games with a average of 13.90.

So does Pietersen and Trott as English so can we please stop this arguement? Or would you like side of double standards sponsored by Lalit Modi?

If you recall back to when this arguement happened I said it was a nonsense debate and that players will go where they feel the best opportunities are. Also said KP was the only big loss. Maybe some other posters have an issue with the guys who decided to play for england but personally I don't care.

On the upcoming test seems its going to be a quick pitch with grass. SA might play 5 quicks, parnell is 99% sure to play ahead of de wet who is unlikely to recover in time. McClaren may make his debut in place of harris.

I'd be quite happy with a green top. I think in Anderson and Onions we have as good a swing/seam type bowlers as South Africa do. Plus I'd imagine Swann would still be able to get a bit of turn, so would be a pretty good game really. As long as it's not a 120 plays 120 type game.

That would be rubbish...McClaren is mediocre at best, from what Ive seen of him im astounded that CSA would even consider him a candidate, let alone go through all the hassel of bringing him back from County Cricket - because to be honest thats the highest he should have climbed. Bowls a bit faster than Collingwood and bats like an out of form Ontong - not exactly what we need to win a crucial final test.

As far as Im concerned they can get rid of Harris, as you said, Duminy is doing a way better job at it anyway...and then bring in Tsotsobe as the forth seamer. He might not be a decent batsman but i'd bet more on him taking a couple of wickets than on McClaren scoring more than 15. Im tired of these bits-and-pieces players who we think we need in the team just to make up the number 8 slot. Steyn, Morkel and Parnell can all hold a bat and in fact I feel any of those can come in just after Boucher if Tsotsobe has to go in at 11 then fine.

Problem is Tsotsobe isnt in the squad, so that rules him out. But certainly for future reference I would add him above McClaren.

I agree...you see thats what gets me with these pitches that are so-called "catered" for our team or our "amazing seam attack". For some reason the SA team seem to forget that when it comes to swing, Anderson is far better at it than probably even Dale Steyn so Im not sure what theyre getting so excited about. I would be shaking in my boots batting first up on a green pitch against Anderson he is a genuine swing bowler.

Then again, this is the final test and we need a pitch that somehow guarantees a result so from the perspective I suppose it makes sense.
