England tour of South Africa 09/10

Parnell is so overrated, he's ████ FFS. The only bowler Colly and Bell settled to, waste of a selection imo

So we judge players on 3 overs now?? Parnell is probably not ready for test cricket but he will be a very good player for us in the future.

He was never ready IMO. He's a really bad version of Mitchell Johnson, he did look good in the MTN40 game against Titans, but he's not a good first class bowler, maybe Rusty Theron was a better bet?

First you say he's overrated and crap but then say he looked good in a limited overs game. He's a good limited overs bowler but he's too raw for test cricket, let alone first class cricket. He's only 20, if he improves as much as Broad has over 3 years then people should start to seriously worry about his ablities. Anyway the point I want to make is that if a bowler is called upto the test squad too early it doesn't make him overrated.

Theron got injured during the game against the Eagles, quite fitting really, the night before he was club hopping and was the worst bowler of the match the next day :D.
McLaren bowled well when you consider his performances in the ODI's, even as a big fan of his, I'm not entirely sure he's test quality. Certainly his recent performances at domestic and county level don't suggest it, but I suppose we'll see how he goes.

On the whole a good day for South Africa, getting England out cheaply and then both openers survived some good swing bowling.

Johnson was 26 when he made his test debut. It would be fairer to judge them at a similar age. Parnell has done more at 20 than what johnson had done at 20. Parnell is a selection with the future in mind considering there is no one really at domestic level putting their hand up saying pick me , it was the right call.

Dude seriously....Parnell is barely 20 years old. He's shown enough promise this early in his career - its far too early to judge him and put him down as a bad version of whatever player. He's freekin 9 years younger than Johnson so theres no point in comparing the two...his time will come. Im sure he will turn him performance around in the 2nd innings, didnt get much of a show today.

Nah, seen a bit of Parnell in his Kent time, and he looks a pretty good prospect, with the normal problems that come with a 20 year old bowler!

Wow, Wayne Parnell not doing well in test cricket, who would of seen that happening at this stage :facepalm If you take out his wickets for Eastern Province his first-class bowling average is close to 40 ffs, 17 wickets at 31.1 for Kent and 17 wickets at 50.1 for the Warriors. Just becuase he's a good prospect for the future shouldn't mean anything, picking a 20 year old with a bad first-class average is never a good thing for the players development.

Picking up garbage time wickets in one dayers shouldn't count for much either.

I like Wayne Parnell, from what I've seen of him anyway. Has a good solid action, bowls at a good pace, get's a bit of movement and seems to have good control, especially at the death of the innings in an ODi or T20, his yorkers are fantastic. The point has been made as well, he's only 20, he's going to improve, and he's certainly got some serious raw talent to work with. Will be a good all-round cricketer for South Africa in all forms of the game I reckon, I'd stick with him and keep him around the squad.

Wayne Parnell has being having serious problems with his action, something he did made him lose all of his swing though I didn't see him today. Nice bowling by Stayn and Morkel though I feel somehow England will draws thins, not sure how though.

From my earlier post:

"Just checked the weather and its looking annoying. Thunderstorms all the way through the test with rain on day 4 and 5. Wouldnt it just be the icing on the cake if we once again get in a winning position and then the weather balls it up for us. A possible 3-1 series win turned into a 1-0 loss....would be vicious."

Oh regarding Parnell...I read somewhere that Rob Key actually considers him to one day become the next Wasim Akram. That would be epic...

Huge disppointment to wake up and see England bundled out. They are going to have to bowl their asses off tomorrow, and back it up with a monumental 2nd innings. Have to say I just dont see it happening- they arent playing Pakistan!
