that leaves you about anothr 3 hours to get 202 runs (thats if youre thinking of winning) which would be do-able, if say it was for 5 wickets but at seven i would be batting for a draw mate. good luck.

So a battling England have forced a draw, after a dramatic final day at Port Elizabeth. Graeme Smith will feel very disappointed with this, I am sure.

A fantastic and a very crucial ton from the England captain, in very tough circumstances. He was running out of partners, as Thorpe and Flintoff both went back cheaply. Jones did spend some time in the middle, but he too failed to perform. But it was Ashley Giles who did the job for England, scoring a vital 67 from a 123 balls, and was involved in a century stand partnership with his captain. Vaughan, as in the first Innings, remained unbeaten, this time on 111. This was his second ton in the match, adding to his unbeaten 153 in the first innings.

A battling performance from Vaughan and Giles earns England a draw. South Africa will feel gutted.

VAUGHAN AND GILES DENY PROTEAS

Giles scored a vital 67 to earn a draw for England

England have forced a draw in the first test against South Africa at Port Elizabeth, thanks to gritty performances from captain Michael Vaughan and Ashley Giles.

England resumed at 165-4, with Vaughan and Thorpe at the crease. Thorpe went soon, scoring just one run. And he was soon joined in the dressing room by Flintoff, who managed just seven. Both wickets were picked up by Shaun Pollock.

Geraint Jones then eased matters a little, but just when it looked like England were going to build a partnership, Jacques Kallis dismissed Jones for 19. England in deep trouble at this stage with the score at 225-7, and still over 4 hours of play left in the day. But then England found an unlikely hero in Ashley Giles, who along with Vaughan frustated the Proteas bowlers. Giles himself scored a vital 67 before being dismissed by Kallis, almost near the end of the days play. Vaughan remained unbeaten, yet again, on 111.

Herschelle Gibbs was named Man of the Match for his two fantastic tons in either innings.

Thats good work Mick. Tied tests in cric 2004 are rare and should be given praise, not only to the game but yourself aswell. :)

Rare it is, but the last two matches have ended in a draw. (Even the warm up match against S Africa A, before the 1st test, ended in a draw.)

THE MTN CASTLE LAGER TEST SERIES
South Africa vs England
2nd Test
Kingsmead, Durban

Series Level 0-0

Hello and welcome to Kingsmead, Durban for the Second test between South Africa and England, in the MTN CASTLE LAGER Test Series. After a dramatic 1st test at Port Elizabeth, that ended in a draw, both teams will want to go one up with a win here at Durban.

Lets have a look at the pitch and conditions.

Well we have an overcast sky today, though it is pretty warm and stuffy. There is fair chance of rain, and the humid and moist conditions could favour the swing bowlers, and enable them to move the ball around quite a bit. As far as the pitch is concerned, there is not much difference from the one we had at Port Elizabeth, but it is probably slighty moist and soft.

I would definately favour bowling first, as it will be pretty tough to bat today morning, as both the overcast sky and the humidity will favour the bowlers a lot.

Toss: Michael Vaughan won the toss and elected to field.

Both teams are unchanged for this game. However South Africa have changed their batting order, with De Villiers promoted to the opening slot alongside Herschelle Gibbs, while Graeme Smith has gone down the order, to no.5.

Well the first day was pretty much about one person, Matthew Hoggard. Hoggy ripped through the Proteas batting, to end with career best figures of 7-76. The Proteas batting display, was in short, pretty disappointing. Apart from a 92 run partnership between Gibbs (43) and Smith (45), there really was no resistance from the South African batsman.

England had scored 33-0 before rain ended play early.
