At Stumps on Day 2
England (1st Innings) 21-0

M. Trescothick 16*(27) M. Ntini 0-4
A. Strauss 4(14)

South Africa (1st Innings) 472-9 declared

J. Kallis 107(141) M. Hoggard 2-86
B. Dippenaar 32(55)

England trail by 451 runs

Highlights:

Pollock is given out LBW to Harmison. Maybe a bit harsh there on the umpires part.

Good work behind the stumps by Geraint Jones to get rid off Nicky Boje.

Andre Nel having a tough time with Freddie's bouncers.

A heavy shower stops play early.

Day 2
South Africa added another 97 runs to their overnight score of 375, before Graeme Smith, rather surprisingly decided to declare the innings. Smith was unbeaten on 157 from 247 balls. Ntini was unbeaten on 10 from 28 balls. Smith was the main run scorer on day 2 for the Proteas, as Pollock, Boje and Nel, dint really do much to trouble the scorers.

Harmison was the pick of the England bowlers with figures of 5-86. He got the wickets of Pollock and Boje, while Flintoff dismissed Andre Nel with a fantastic delivery.

Play was stopped early due to a heavy shower which was very much expected.

But the main talking point of the day was Graeme Smith decision's to declare with the score at 472. I guess Smith was concerned about the fact that a lot of time could be lost due to rain, as heavy showers were predicted both today and tomorrow. So I think Smith did not want time to be a problem for his team. We all very well know, that even a draw here means, South Africa lose the series. Hence, keeping this in view, I guess it was a very brave and a good decision by Smith.
