David Gower : Hello and Welcome to The 3rd Man's Chat for the lunch session show. We have all witnessed a terrific start to the Ashes 06-07 as we saw lots of action and drama right from the first ball. In the end England managed to pick up 1 wicket of Justin Langer but Australia scored quickly and finished the session with the score of 99 runs for 1 wicket . With me in the studio are Michael Holding, Mark Nicholas, Geoffrey Boycott and Naseer Hussain. Lets hear from our cricketing experts about their views and opinions about todays match.Well Mark what do u think about this 1st session?

Mark Nicholas : Yeah it was good start to the Ashes 06-07 . The very first ball of the match and Justin Langer was hit hard in the rib cage area by a short ball by Harmison which got things heated up. According to me England bowled well in the start with Harmison and Hoggard bowling nicely and troubling the openers right from the start. I loved the way Hoggard bowled in this session . He got the ball to swing into the left handers very sharply and the pitch showed some signs of uneven bounce as well which is a worrying factor as the match progress. But Hoggard bowled a good length and kept an accurate line. He troubled the batsmen right from the start and beat many times and got the important wicket of Justin Langer when things were looking good for Australia. Lets take a look at the bowling pitchmap of Matthew Hoggard . He bowed on and around the offstump line to the left handers and was very accurate as well . Look at the good lenth and fuller area lots of balls were pitched in that area which troubled the openers . Overall a good start to England but the Australia win this session.

G. Boycott: Yeah Australia were better in the first session as they lost only 1 wicket and scored 99 runs whereas England on the other hand created chances but it didnt went their way . Hayden was caught behind first ball and Billy Bowden was unmoved as if he never had any clue of whats going on there . There was clearly a deflection and the ball moved after hitting the gloves . It was slight deflection but umpiring in the Ashes is tough and now the umpires will have to be alert as more and more tight decisions can come . Flintoff was all over the place as he gave too many runs. Harmison and Hoggard bowled well so Australia's target was Andrew Flintoff and they never allowed him to settle . As a result of it he lost his line and rythm but after the fall of Langer's wicket he started to bowl a controlled line .

N.Hussain: The 1st session a good one for both team according to me but England will have to take few more wickets quickly or else Australia will get a big score. Monty bowled couple of good overs but he didnt spin the ball much but created a chance but there was no second slip . I think England are 1 bowler short for this match as batting is easier and England bowlers will be tired. I think that Vaughan will have to bowl as well or may be we can see some spin from Pietersen . Lets hope for the best and lets see how will England respond in the 2nd session.

Nice work with the pitchmap! :) That Hayden's not out decision is already proving to be costly...

Gr8 Presentation gamer. And aussie is hving the luck .good Umpire .

Good analysis. Yes that wrong decision from the umpire could have a crucial impact on this game. But just one question - is it possible in Cricket 2005 that the umpire doesnt give a caught behind decision?
