EXTRA INNINGS​

Mandira Bedi : Hello and welcome all our viewers from around the world to EXTRA INNINGS for the post match show of the ICC Champions Trophy 2006. Today we have witnessed a huge turnaround as England beat the World Champions Australia by 38 runs and after a long time ENgland has shown such a fighting perfermance as beating the world champions is not at all an easy task but they did it comfortably in the end. With me in the studio are two cricketing experts Navjot Singh Sidhu and G.Boycott.

N.Sidhu : Wow that was just unbelievable stuff. Who would have thought that England will pull out such a stunning performance when the match had started. England were on the backfoot straight-away right from the 1st over and i thought that now Aussies are on to a big win as England will be bowled out cheaply . But thanks to Kevin Pietersen and Paul Collingwood who got things moving for England. The key player was Kevin Pietersen who started hitting the bowlers all over tha place and that huge six against Hogg was the best shot i have ever seen by him . He is a classy stylish batsman and is a huge bonus for England for the coming Ashes. Collingwood played a good anchor innings as he stayed till the very end and got the scoreboard moving for England. Flintoff played a good captains role in the depth and England managed to post a good score on this wicket and their bowlers did the trickfor them. The happiest person of the world is G.Boycott . Well Geoffery what are ur reactions on this victory.

G.Boycott:That was brilliant cricket by England . The bowlers bowled superbly the batsmen were fabulous . Pietersen , Collingwood and Flintoff all batted superbly. In the bowling we saw Harmison back in form and Monty bowled superbly . Thanks to the selectors they got him in the sqaud and now he has shown that he is worthy in the side. Aussies had the chance till the end to win this one. But Harmison bolwed well and got the top order wickets and England were in the match . But the worring factor for England was the partnership between Symonds and Clarke . They were batting well and were set but Monty did the trick and got both the batsmen in the same over and then the task was simpler for England. Flintoff kept the pressure from the other end and Monty went through the tail and England pulled out a famous victory and now i wonder how will the Ashes shape up .

Ian Botham :Good Evening ladies and gentlemen .Today we have seen what that we cant predict anything in ODI's as England beat Australia by 38 runs and now Group A is getting tougher and tougher .First of all I request Australian captain R.Ponting to come forward please .

Well Ricky that was really a tough match you were unlucky as u kept losing wickets and then it was no way to comeback in the match.

R.Ponting :We were bowling well in the start and we got them on the backfoot right in the start but then they batted well mainly Pietersen and Collingwood . That partnership almost took the game away from us but we very fielding well and were kepping the runs down and then Flintoff came and smashed few quick boundaries and they got 244 which was chasable but they were good in bowling and we lost wickets in the start and the conditions were not good to bat in this heat and it was all over when all the batsmen were back and the tailenders were fighting but it was too late for us.

Ian Botham : So now Group A is getting tougher and tougher so whats your thought on that.

R.Ponting : Yeah no its getting tougher we will have to win the next match to go to the semifinals and we will surely fightback strongly and we will show a better performance there.

Ian Botham : Good luck for the next match Ricky .Big one for you as Indians are next.

R.Ponting :Thanks Ian.

Ian Botham : Now i will like to call the winning captain A.Flintoff on stage................Well Freddie congrajulations but your team was good in batting and bowling today

A.Flintoff :]Yes we showed a good performance in batting as well as bowling.Pietersen and Collingwood did a good job with their batting and got a good score on the board and then Harmison was bowling nice with the new ball getting early wickets and Lewis also bowled nicely and in the end Monty got crucial breakthroughs for us to win the match.

Ian Botham :Also what about the next match against the West Indies.

A.Flintoff :Now this match is a real confident boaster for us we will try on to win the next match too and then hopefully we will do well in the semifinals as well.

Ian Botham :Well Freddie Good Luck for the next match .

A.Flintoff :Thank You very much Ian .

Ian Botham :Now the Man Of The Match award is choosen by the commentary team and the match refree and believe me that it was a really tough decision to make .Pietersen played well for his 74 and Harmison got 3 wickets . But it was a tough decision to make between Collingwood and Monty but finally we decided that Monty Panesar is todays Man Of The Match for his wonderful bowling performance picking up 4 wickets for just 16 runs.

Congrajulation Monty for excellent bowling performance and how do u feel after this achievement ?

M.Panesar: It was a big opportunity for me coming in the ODI side and i was determined to give my 100 % and give everything for my country . Last match i was bit tensed but this match i was bowling good line and Freddie gave good support to me from the other end and he was telling me to bowl a good line and let the ball do the talking.

Ian Botham :This is your 2nd match and u picked up 4 wickets thats amazing and which was yor best wicket.

M.Panesar: Yeah my 1st wicket of M.Clarke i was excited about that but my best wicket was of Andrew Symonds who was bowled and then it was easier for us to win after that partnership was broken.

Ian Botham :Thanks Monty for having a word with us and All The Best for the next match
