Crucial Last Over​

The match finished in style but one team was not happy with the result as they didnt expect that they will lose that too in the very last over of the match . But the other team celebrated after the win and now both the teams are hoping that they will be better in the NRR and also they are hoping that India beat Australia in their next encounter.This is what actually happened in the final over of the match .

Last Over

1st Ball : WestIndies need 4 runs in 6 balls .
Flintoff has the ball in his hands and Samuels is on strike and its very important for England to take a wicket . So there we go Flintoff steaming in to ball to Samuels . He bowls on the pads and Samuels played that one nicely on the leg side for a single so that brings R.Morton on strike.

2nd Ball : WestIndies need 3 runs in 5 balls .
Flintoff needs some chance in the field . Fine leg brought up looks like he is inviting the batsmen to play across the line. Flintoff bowls a slower ball outside the offstump , Morton tried to go over the infield but he never got hold of it and it went straight in the hands of Strauss . Morton departs and Flintoff strikes at a crucial stage . England still have a chance to win this one as WestIndies are crumbing under pressure.

3rd Ball : WestIndies need 3 runs in 4 balls.
After the fall of that wicket C.Baugh takes gaurd . Well Flintoff is trying his best out there lets see what happens next. The field is up but fine-leg is dropped back . Short ball by Flintoff , C.Baugh swings his bat at that one and misses that completely . Dot Ball now the pressure is back on West Indies.

4th Ball : WestIndies need 3 runs in 3 balls.
All the pressure of the universe on C.Baugh . He needs to get a single and give the strike to M.Samuels. Flintoff balls at waist height C.Baugh smartly plays off his hips and they manage to pick up couple of runs . Scores are tied .Flintoff now has to pick 2 wickets in 2 balls or has to ball 2 dot balls . The field is up anything can happen now .

5th Ball : WestIndies need 1 run in 2 balls.
The pressure in on England now they need a dot ball badly . Flintoff comes in to bowl to Baugh. He balls a short ball and C.Baugh goes for the square cut but fails to keep it on the ground. The ball was in the air for a while and Struass dives to his left and the ball goes past just wide of him . WestIndies get that important single run and celebrate victory . England fought back nicely but it was WestIndies who managed to pull this one out. A great match coes to an end and that will surely go down in the history books as one of the greatest run chase ever.

EXTRA INNINGS​

Mandira Bedi : Hello and welcome all our viewers from around the world to EXTRA INNINGS for the post match show of the ICC Champions Trophy 2006. Today we have seen a fantastic match with both England and WestIndies showing their powers with the bat and then we headed down to the exciting nail bitting finish which had to go wither side and finally it was WestIndies who showed that he can handle the pressure nicely now both the teams are tied with 4 points each infact Australia also or on 4 points but they still have one match to play but India go through to the semifinals and England and WestIndies will have to wait for the Points Table which will be decided on the net run rate. With me in the studio are two cricketing experts Navjot Singh Sidhu and G.Boycott.

N.Sidhu : Wow that was just unbelievable stuff. Who would have through 50 overs ago that WestIndies will fightback in such a manner and Gayle was just superb with his batting .Had England got Gayle's wicket early in the match then surely the result would have been different. Gayle just took the match away from England with his terrific batting . I have never seen such onslaught for a long time . He was there to disturb the rythm of the bolwers . Firstly it was S.Harmison was smashed for runs all around the place and he was just wondering what he has to do as he got 3 wickets in the last match and everyone thought that he is gaining his form but now he is again low in confidence as today he went for runs. The it was Plunkett's turn he was there to provide a breakthrough but instead both Gayle and Lara went after him . Lara was just killing Plunkett by scoring 3 successive boundaries in his 1st over and the Gayle murdered him by hitting a big Six in his next over. That was the stage when England lost the match but then thanks to Monty and Flintoff they took the match to the last over and were close to win this one but 4 runs in 6 balls is achievable and WestIndies won that with 1 ball to spare. Good cricket from both the teams and especially from C.Gayle wonderful stuff.But if u see the points table it says a completely different story . England have managed to retain the 2nd spot in the group even after they lost today and that means England still have a chance only if Australia lose their next match.

G.Boycott:That was brilliant stuff from both the teams . WestIndies are lucky to win this match as in the 4th over of the match A.Strauss was dropped on 5 runs an he went on to make a century so at that stage I thought that WestIndies have committed suicide . But Gayle won the match for WestIndies and the start was not good for them as well. Gayle was playing and missing in the start but after the fallof Chanderpaul's wicket when Lara came both the batsmen suddenly changed on to aggressive gear and that partnership between Gayle and Lara won the match for WestIndies . That was the most crucial partnership of the match as we saw that after Gayle and Lara the batsmen were not steady and WestIndies kept on losing wickets till the last over but luckily for them C.Baugh got those 3 runs.

Ian Botham :Good Evening ladies and gentlemen .Well the Champions Trophy is getting hotter and hotter we are getting close finishes and today also we got one close finish and WestIndies were the winners in the end.First of all I request England captain A.Flintoff to come forward please .

Well Freddie that was really a tough match you were unlucky as you did all the hard work with the bat and then you were close to win but it went the other way in the end.

A.Flintoff :Yeah we batted well and Strauss played brillianly and the others came and chipped in with important runs and then i went and scored there in the last 10 overs and thankfully we got 282 on board which we thought that it will be a winning total but the WestIndies bowled superbly and Gayle and Lara batted wonderfully and took the game away from us at one stage but then we cameback strongly as Monty took two wicket and Harmison took a brilliant catch to dismiss Gayle. But in the end it was difficult to defend 4 runs in 6 balls but we tried our best and most importantly we enjoyed the cricket.

Ian Botham : So now its all down to what happens in Australia v India match and that will deicide if England will stay in the tournament or not.

A.Flintoff : Yes the next match of Group A will be a crucial one as 3 teams are stuck on 4 points so i hope that India play well and win the next match so that we still have a chance as the result will be deicided on the Net Run Rate

Ian Botham : Good luck for that Feddie .

A.Flintoff :Thanks Ian.

Ian Botham : Now i will like to call the winning captain B.Lara on stage................Well Brian congrajulations but your team batted well today and won the match in pressure situation.

B.Lara :Yes we showed a good performance iwith the bat.Both me and Gayle said to each other that if we stay at the wicket for some time and score at a quicker rate then we had a chance and thats what we did and in the end Samuels batted nicely and Baugh did well to score those 3 runs in pressure situaltion.

Ian Botham :Also now your team are behind England when it comes to net run rate so that means WestIndies are also out of this tournament.

B.Lara :Yes England are ahead of us when compared with the Net Run Rate and we are at number 3 so no chance for us to comeback in this tournament but we will play well in out next series against Pakistan and hope that we show a better performace there.

Ian Botham :Well Brian your team performed well in this tournament as well but you may find yourself unlucky for not making to the semifinals. Good Luck for the future series .

B.Lara :Thank You very much Ian and all the best for England for the rest of the tournament and the coming Ashes.

Ian Botham :Now the Man Of The Match award is choosen by the commentary team and the match refree and we have decided that the Man Of The match for today is Chris Gayle.

Congrajulations Chris for this wondeful batting performance and how do u feel after this achievement ?

C.Gayle:It was a big target to chase at first place so the team required me to score quick runs and did the same and Brian joined me in the middle and then he also started scoring quickly and that got rid of all the pressure and then i started scoring freely.

Ian Botham :Well you are one of the hard hitters of the ball and were you dissappointed to get out after scoring the century?.

C.Gayle:Yeah just a bit i wanted to stay till the victory but Harmy took a wonderful catch at the boundary which i never expected but England filders were good in the field today and they really showed a tough fight.
