In the build up to the 2 International 20-20's coming up, Hampshire played West Indies in a One-Day warm-up game at Southampton.

Hants captain Shane Warne won the toss and elected to bat on a flat track.

The West Indies chose an young team for this warm-up. The openers Chris Gayle and Devon Smith stepped up. Chris Tremlett was troubling the openers with swing in the air. Firstly Deavon Smith edged to Carberry in the slips for 10 after he struggled to read Chris Tremlett. However Wavell Hinds and Chris Gayle piled on the runs and had an unbeaten 132 run stand. It was not till the 38 over before Chris Tremlett was reintroduced Wavell Hinds went for a big heave outside of off-stump. Unfortunatly for him he got an inside edge and the ball went on to the stumps.

After Hinds went the momentum changed. Udal got a dolly staright back to him after Chanderpaul mistimed a pull shot. Before long the Windies had lost another 2 quick wickets. Gayle's sparkling Innings came to an end after Tremlett bowled full and straight and Gayle missed it.

Carlton Baugh and Darren Sammy provided some late hitting to get the Windies up to 213.

Hampshire didn't start their reply well and wouldn't have even got far if it wasn't without Zimbabwean Sean Ervine's 60.

Firstly Adams got a beauty from St.Lucian Darren Sammy. After scoring at just 3 an over WIndies skipper Chris Gayle brought on Ryan Hinds and in his first over he cuaght Carberry into a shot. He mistimed it and it went straight down Chanderpaul's throat.

However Sean Ervine at the other end was seeing the ball onto the bat nicely. But unfortunatly for him wickets kept tumbling at the other end. By the time he had reached his fifty Hants were 9 down.

Dave Mohammad picked up his 4th wicket when Ervicne tryed to hit him out of the park. Wavell Hinds took the catch on the boundary with ease.

With a win behind them can the Windies win the 20-20 matches?

Well, not a promising display from Windies managing to put just 213 which is not that great score to defend. Promising signs from Mohammad though.. And gud display from Ervine! Keep up the good works :)

I.W: Domestic 20-20 is well under way in 2007, tonight it’s the turn of England and the West Indies the first of 2 20-20 Internationals and change is in the air.

ENGLAND PRESS CONFERENCE:
Paul Collingwood said:
"We need to hold our hands up in the air and admit you know we haven’t had a great winter in the one-day form of the game and we haven’t been a good one-day side for some time now so in my point of view this a great opportunity to you know to take our game to the next level and try to be successful in one-day cricket. Get the consistency and intensity going aswell and try and play some positive cricket.

I.W: Tickets for today’s game sold out before Christmas over 23,000 fans here at the Brit Oval for the first 20-20 International of the summer, it’s all change as Paul Collingwood’s England take on Chris Gayle’s West Indies. Good afternoon a new beginning for England and the West Indies in One-day International cricket starting today here at the Brit Oval in the shortest form of the game.
I.W: Now both captains are with me here in the middle with Mike Proctor the ICC Match Referee. Now Paul you know what you’re doing away you go…Chris Gayle has called heads.
M.P: Heads it is.
I.W: Chris Gayle has won the toss. What are you going to do Chris?
C.G: We will have a bat today. I think it is a good wicket to bat on and we want to make first use of it.
I.W: The wicket looks fantastic perhaps suits your brand of Cricket.
C.G: Yeah definatly as we have included a extra batter today so he can make a big difference when we bat first today and we're looking forward to the challenge.
I.W: It's been well documented. You've had a few problems in the build up to this 20-20 and indeed the One-day Series how's mood in the camp?
C.G: Yeah well the camp is good the guys are looking forward to it and putting the negative aside and focus on the game at hand.
I.W: And just a word on Dwayne Bravo fit to play but not to bowl.
C.G: Yeah definatly he is fit to play but not to bowl. He's agile in the field will help us aswell today.
I.W: Have a good gameand thanks for talking to us.
C.G: Thanks
I.W: Paul, proud moment?
P.C: Yeah very proud moment to walk out here and toss the coin it’s all old stuff but it’s a great feeling.
I.W: Busy in the last couple of days, get any sleep last night?
P.C: Yeah it’s not been too bad to be honest obviously there has been plenty to think about to get the plans and strategies in place but all the boys are really looking forward to it.
I.W: Not everyone fit though I understand Ian Bell has not passed his fitness test.
P.C: Yeah he had a bit of a groin strain but hopefully he will be ready to go in the 1st one-day game.
I.W: Mind chasing on here?
P.C: No, this Oval pitch is a pretty good pitch most of the time. Preferred to have batted first but will be happy chasing.
I.W: It’s going to be a busy night.
P.C: Yeah it’s going to be mayhem.
I.W: (Laughs) Well have a great game and thanks very much indeed. Ok so that is what has happened out here in the middle, West Indies have won the toss and they are going to bat first. Join us after the break where we will discuss all the team news
