England's tour of India - 2021

How about Hardik at 6 and Krunal at 7

Krunal's really fallen off a cliff over the last three seasons. Previously wasn't a fan of him in T20Is but Jadeja deserves that number seven slot.

I wouldn't even mind Hardik at five as I've mentioned before. I think I posted a playing XI around 2-3 years ago for the Australian T20WC that went something like..

Kohli
Rahul
Rohit
Pant
Hardik
DK
Krunal
Bhuvi
Saini
Bumrah
Chahal

This one is obviously outdated given the time I posted it but we do have other options now for the players I originally wanted with the exception of the number six position.

Kohli
Rahul
Rohit
Pant/Kishan
Hardik
?
Jadeja/Sundar
Sundar/Bhuvi
Bhuvi/Shami
Bumrah
Chahal

We cannot not have Shreyas or SKY in the team. One of them has to be there. We saw what happened in the first T20 where everyone got out and at that time we needed Iyer's inning. So depending on the match situation, we play Iyer at 5 or down if we keep playing Ishan or 4 or down if we do not play Ishan.

But what was the ultimate result of the game? A defeat as we could only limp to a below par score. In that scenario, the only way to have won the game would have been with a freakish innings from a Russell or Pandya and/or some genuinely world-class bowling from every bowler.

And this is not Shreyas' fault at all, he is a number three being asked to play a thankless role. The fact that he still looks good when doing it shows that he is a classy player who will perform extremely well under the right circumstances.

Go orgasmic and ballastic in praises on Kohli's batting and hurl abuses over his captaincy! What a heady cocktail combination this guy is turning out to be!!

Horrible call that from him on Pant run out. He is another Sachin Tendulkar in captaincy also - over expectations on other players and trying to match them up to his own lofty standards (Srinath once said in some interview that this was what Sachin's problem with captaincy was). He bats like a dream, and that's what makes it so weird.

Honestly the mindset of the players is a mess. Merry go round happening out there with the batting order. Shreyas to me doesn't seem ready for that role in T20's. You either play him at the top or dont play him at all. Also its too late right now for SKY (yeah yeah he has played IPL and all, but intl cricket is still a different fish and with an ICC tournament pressure on you, its 10-50x bigger pressure than the most intense IPL game). Rahul is in a mess, Dhawan seems to not know what he should be doing, Rohit is in and out... Ishan had a good innings when the cards are laid in his favor. Only Kohli seems to be batting with any semblance of consistency and he too had a minor rough patch until about 2 games ago

I have -100 expectations on this side for the World T20.

Well I agree that we did not reach a score that would be defendable but we atleast reached a score. Jadeja definitely could be our solution if not Iyer in the team. However, Iyer has to be in our ODI lineup.

Could this World T20 be literally decided by the toss? Fall-Winter season in India is known for its heavy dew. And we are seeing here in Ahmedabad that even in March, batting is far easier in 2nd innings.
