Malan's strike rate is 34 on spinners since 2019

England have the same side and same batting order as a visiting side. One forced change per game.

We've had 3 different opening combos, established number 4 batting at 6. Bloke who was keeping isn't now and the new one is batting 4. Pandya has gone from 6 to 7.

It's a proper mess.

And then people will ogle over the innings played by the captain and sing his hymns.

Rohit
Rahul
Kohli
Kishan/Iyer/Sky (Kishan has to be picked in the squad as he keeps and can bat anywhere and only one of the other two can make the squad)
Pant
Pandya
Jadeja
Sundar/Chahal (both should be picked for the WC)
Bhuvaneshwar
Shami/Natarajan
Bumrah

Kuldeep
Saini

3 spots we are unsure of already from what I can see and we are compounding the mess.

Others disappoint hence kohli has to crop and chop the entire combination. Cut some slack to best ever captain

You could've picked this England XI two years ago (maybe not Malan at that time). Big difference between an Indian side that is trying out new players, missing first choices and trying to remain competitive in the series. They could've done with a series against a Sri Lanka or Bangladesh not the strongest limited overs side playing their best team.

I suppose Root will replace Bairstow in the WT20 XI, and Moeen might replace Curran, otherwise England are playing with a settled team, mostly. India seem all over the place with selection.

Controversial as it may sound, it wouldn't surprise me if they went without Root for the WC. Although I think on a sluggish Indian surface he would be of immense value with both bat and ball. Still think unironically that he should be the floating anchor slash finger spin all-rounder.

And this is the reason why Buttler should be an opener. He gets his boundaries in the powerplay with fearless and aggressive strokes, rotates strike and punishes the few bad balls in the middle overs and then gears up for a big finish. Deprive him of that essential powerplay phase and he suddenly looks no better than your standard accumulator who might go on to have the odd big innings.

And this is also why I believe Kohli works best as an opener. Imagine a few extra boundaries that he could have got at the start to really polish off that total. Players like him work best as the opener.
