England's tour of India - 2021

Guess James Vince's exploits against Ireland weren't enough to keep him as Joe Root's deputy. So, good to see someone else bat at 3. Assume it would be Livingstone. It seems like he's been in every squad for ages but it's almost four years since he played his first and last matches for England. Certainly still have the batting to get scores but I'd be surprised if England managed to win this series. No Archer, no Woakes and still no Plunkett replacement.

Also, great to see England have not just a Rest and Rotation policy but a Rest and Rest policy exclusively for Chris Woakes.

Man needs a lot of rest

What is the case with David Willey not being picked by Ed Smith and co?

Generally I think the view is he can only bowl in the power play. Also, his surname is not Curran.

He played 3 matches against Ireland last summer and was arguably England's best player. 51 and 47* (when England were 137/6 to see them home with Billings) at 111 SR with the bat. 8 wickets with the ball at 18.5 including a 5/30.

Ex-act-ly
His T20i record is very good. Since his debut, only Mark Wood has a better average/strike rate. The Currans have worse averages, economies and strike rates. His ODI record is not exceptional but he was a big part of the ODI squad before Archer came along. Then he was booted from both sides.

I really wonder how long senior Curran can get away on just appearing talented. It is fine when you're just starting out on the international stage but I don't really see a major improvement with the ball from him. How long will the excuse of "but he bowls those tough overs, surely he deserves some slack?" stick around for him? I really like him as a player but he has been very disappointing for quite sometime.

Also Mo and Woakes were/are in the wrong bubbles for this tour. Even accounting for the former's dreadful record versus India, he could have been useful in the third test. Woakes is arguably England's second best ODI pacer and wasn't ever going to get ahead of Anderson and Broad in the tests owing to his shite away record.

Was there something behind the scenes? I remember Willey being in the news for a tweet/liking a tweet that was a dig against the national side/domestic side.

I think he has been harshly treated too. He wasn't bad at all versus Pakistan but had to be dropped before the World Cup for obvious reasons and ever since then his place just seems to have become less secure? Even accounting for him bowling a lot of his overs up front, he does have a case for him being hard done by based on his numbers.
