England's tour of India - 2021

No root? Strange. If I were the selector, I would have him. Roy has been below par in t20is for a long time, a few more faliures and I might have been tempted to make root open instead...

Root doesn't make the T20 side for me and doesn't seem to fit where Morgan wants to go with the side. As a t20 side we seem to work along the lines of 'if x player doesn't get you then y player will'.

With that being the case his workload is so big with 17 tests in one year including away tours to India and Australia that it seems counter productive to have him in the squad.

He's a big part of the 50 over team but with the next world cup being years away the 50 over side is very much bottom of the priority list at the moment so I can see almost a whole different team for those matches.

I suppose in white ball cricket we're pretty fortunate at the moment that we have such an array of destructive batsmen that we can afford to leave him out. It's more the bowling that will be our downfall if we have one.

Archer is out injured now. Sore elbow apparently.

I'm not sure which way we'll go. I think we'll want Broad and Anderson together for the pink ball test, so I doubt we'll go with them both for the second test as well. Stone might come in for Archer, unless we go with Moeen Ali and play 3 spinners.

We've announced our 12 for the second test. No Bess, Anderson, Archer or Buttler.

Burns
Sibley
Lawrence
Root
Stokes
Pope
Foakes (wk)
Ali
Woakes
Leach
Broad
Stone

Is Bess injured? No other reason to drop him.

Wow, surprised they dropped Bess to be honest. Moeen does at least average 42 with the bat in India to go with his stellar bowling average of 64.9.

I hope the Warwickshire man gets the second pace bowling spot.

Apart from the 19 full tosses. Moeen only bowled 2 moon balls when he got dropped.

India wouldn't mind if Moin gets picked and he honours his bowling average in India. But yeh, surprised to see Bess missing out. He didn't do anything wrong tbh.

So I guess it will be a toss up between Woakes and Moin. And if that's the case, I reckon they would want to go with a spinner.

Btw, is Butler's non-availability limited to just the 2nd Test or the remaining ones as well?

I think Moeen will play. I can't see them going for only one spinner to be honest.

Buttler is unavailable for the rest of the series. So, England fans get what we wished for: the silky ball handling of Ben Foakes.

Probable playing XI for England tomorrow. I can't see England going to the inexperienced Stone that too playing in India. Woakes have a good experience of playing in India in white-ball Cricket since he first played in 2013. Although I do doubt whether he has played a Test in India. But, he is exactly the bowler for the subcontinent conditions with experience as well.

Mo can easily double that in half the number of days.

Weird one the Bess drop for me too: how to break a young blokes confidence.......

Hopefully, Pant Gill and Bumrah are dropped. They were the primary reasons for the loss in the 1st Test.

In test cricket, experience is the most important thing, and I want players who are boring and defensive. So here is my lineup:
Rohit
Agarwal
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Saha
Axar
Nadeem
Siraj
Ishant
Ashwin

Siraj is a much better bowler than Bumrah in Test cricket, as shown by the previous Australia tour.

A side good enough to ensure you lose the series 1-0

I can’t see us not playing Stone tbh. We need the extra pace, perhaps the dropping Bess is have at least one more experienced bowler in Mo.
