Totally agree Dutch,what's the point of declaring when the pitch is so flat? Bat bat bat and hope the pitch deteriorates.

Really can't see the problem batting longer at the start of the match. The pitch was already misbehaving a little, so why not eek out as many runs as possible. It looked like it was getting some nasty bounce on a length Archer will be able to hit.
If Gill or Sharma bats as long as Sibbo then they aren't scoring an 80, more like a 180. India can get 500 and if the pitch deteriorates further England don't need to be coming in on the afternoon of day 4 needing overhaul a deficit or bat long enough to prevent India from bowling us out cheaply.
I can understand wanting to see Buttler go for it but for all the talk of him being England's Gilchrist I can't remember one innings in a test match he's ever played that way. (Maybe if he did he'd have more than two centuries in 50 matches).

England should have declared and made India bat 10-12 overs. This is not some roll over English side that will just concede 750 and bundle off.
A lot of fools like to attribute Headingley based on "English conditions" and I had called Stokes to do that sort of special stuff prior to his Perth hundred. I don't have the lack in life to dig that post out else I would.
This is the first side that has the capacity to beat India and I include NZ in it. But, they have chosen a pu$$y mode! Good luck with that!
I just know from past experience that such sides (like this Indian side) need to be told that they're beatable and an English side capable of doing so chickened out.
I don't care if India make 200/1 tomorrow or get bundled for 250 but the move was to declare and have them bat.

I see nothing wrong in batting the full 2 days. Not very often do you see visiting teams be in that position in India. Keeping the opposition bowlers on field for that long wil have an effect, if not in this match then the next. Remember how tired the Australian bowlers looked after the 3rd Test?
It's a different thing if India also end up scoring 500+ but I feel that's not gonna be the case. I think the deficit is too much to be playing without thinking about it. We know under Virat the team would not be looking for draw (at least not yet), so to have England bat again with not much of lead would mean scoring 500+ in under 2 days which could result in a couple of rash shots from the bastmen and ending up losing their wicket. It's all advantage England as things stand.
On a sidenote, I'm putting my money on Rohit failing.

If the pitch behaves as is, Gill and Sharma are going to have a blast batting out there.
Still of the same belief, pitches like these are abomination to test cricket.
