England's tour of India - 2021

92, 92, 91

Brilliant day for England. 6 wickets for 240-odd is absolutely gold. They can dictate terms now.

I wonder how many of the wickets were off good deliveries and how many were gifted.

In any case, follow on looks like a possibility now given that Bumrah, Ishant and Nadeem are to follow. Ashwin and Sunder are our last hope at avoiding it. But even if they do a lead of 150 odd is good enough to put pressure on the team batting last.

I wouldn't take the follow on if I was the English skipper. Would rather have a session or two of quick batting from the English batsmen (Root could be massive here) to give the bowlers some rest (alongside further breaking the Indian ones) before setting a mammoth total and applying all the pressure on an Indian side that has the tendency to gift soft wickets these days.

Was it the case of Bess bowling well or us playing like shit against a new spinner as usual?

I think Bess bowled really well and Kohli wicket was absolutely gold!!! Remember Kohli scored a 150-odd and a double hundred last time when England were here so definitely it was a massive wicket. Kohli when it comes to playing spin is an absolute beast in subcontinent conditions , so to outfox him is a huge achievement.

I think Pujara was rather unlucky to get out in the way he did. Rahane's shot selection was questionable from a senior pro but the catch was equally good from Root.

For Pant I think nothing much he could've done with 5 down and a trail of 390.

I would also say that we really can't blame Shubman Gill's shot there. He has just arrived from Australia so the adjustment in pitches was always going to trouble him a little. Playing in Australia that was a boundary for sure.

Rohit was the usual Rohit in Tests. A soft dismissal and lack of patience coming into play. Could've controlled his instincts better.

Nothing much to say. England are clearly a better side in this match. Let us see how much longer the Indians could avoid the defeat. It would be great if we somehow play out an improbable draw.

I don't think we'd enforce the follow on if it's available. We don't want to bat last on a surface that is deteriorating.

It depends on when we can get the rest out but if we've got them out before lunch I can see us batting the middle session and trying to get as many as possible. They might even send out Buttler and Stokes to attack the new ball and play in T20 mode.
