England's tour of India (Nov '16/Feb '17)

Saying that the current players didn't face the great bowlers and nowadays pitch suits batting and hence they can't surpass the likes of Viv, Sachin and so on, is not fair at all. Kohli / ABD could have played well during that era too, and they could have done better job than the rest or they could have even failed . They didn't get chance to play during that time. It's not their fault. It doesn't mean that, what they have achieved is less than what their seniors have.

Again, comparing different eras and telling Viv, Sachin are better than Kohli/ABD based on a sole reason that newer guys didn't face great bowlers, is not a valid reason according to me. During that generation they were the best and in this generation, Kohli/ABD are the best.

It just means the standard has dropped and we need to be smarter/tougher in judging players. For example, if a player in the Portuguese football league scores 50 goals a season, will you say he is better than Messi or is as good as him? When someone says he needs to play at a higher level, will you say that he can only score against the teams that he faces and since he has a record as good as Messi's, he's as good as him?

The current Australian team is the weakest in decades; same with South Africa, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies. Only England and New Zealand can claim to have improved when compared to the past.

First of all I don't watch football.

I know batting is pretty easy nowadays. What I am saying is, when people are telling that these newer players didn't face great bowlers from the past and hence they don't match the older players and are inferior to them, my question is, these newer players didn't get a chance to face them and now how can you judge that these players would not have scored well during that time ? How can you tell that these guys from present gen would have failed if they had played in that era ?

I am not telling Kohli or ABD is better than Sachin or Viv. What I am telling is, Kohli/ABD could have done a good job in that era too. We just can't tell that, cricket standards has lessened now and hence these guys are not as good as them.

Kohli and Rahul gone. Time for Yuvi and Dhawan to shine. Last chance for them.

Nah , not the last chance for Dhawan

It would be better if we go with the same openers that went on to play in the 2013 Champions Trophy also held in England , Rohit & Shikhar
This pair has the experience of playing in those conditions

If not Shikhar , then Rahane .....[DOUBLEPOST=1484814741][/DOUBLEPOST]Anyone had Woakes in the FC ? :p

Dhawan has to tweaking go. No matter how slowly Rahane plays he is a much better option then Dhawan. Also Rahul hasnt had a decent inning ever since his return from injury. Since Sehwag and Gambhir apart from CT2013 we have struggled with opening.

Aslo Rahane is better suited as an opener in limited overs format.

No matter what the result in the previous game was or the result of this game, India has a jaded ODI outfit that is overdependent on Kohli. With all due regards to Yuvi`s contributions to Indian cricket, he is not the answer to the batting woes and is sure to be found wanting in England. Guys like Dhoni and Yuvraj are`nt going to score at the rate modern ODI cricket demands. We would be lucky to make it to the semis of the CT in 2013. Rather than providing repeated opportunities to guys like Dhawan and Yuvraj to re-establish, why not give these chances to people like Rishabh Pant? Even M.Vijay who has all the strokes in the world has never been considered for the opener`s slot in ODIs for long enough. Even Rahane for that matter has not been given the same cushion that Dhawan or Yuvraj have been. Our thinking in ODI cricket is a mess.

India would consider themselves lucky if they get anything above 220 now.

Seriously ? No. Dhawan should go. Rohit comes back and if Rahul keeps playing like this, Rahane should replace him. We have Vijay, Pant and many others. But no Dhawan.

I`m happy that Dhawan failed today. Had he got one big score, he would be on the flight to England. Also, Dhoni off late is very very one paced. He does`nt rotate the strike for a long part of his innings and his shot-making is`nt the same either. He eats up too many balls and kills any momentum.

Brilliant innings from Yuvi. We need this pair to hold together till 35 overs atleast.

Though I do not feel that this is a long term fix, its been a brilliant innings. Also, Yuvraj has looked much better than Dhawan.

If I bat, I will look better than Dhawan in his current form.
