He has been absolute fantastic this year. Shame he was held back for many years at Norwich, especially when given second choice behind inferior keepers.

heh, 2nd choice behind Andy Marshall, who failed for both teams in East Anglia... now plying his trade at Coventry, who I am hoping we can smash tomorrow, we are due an away win :D

Exactly the point I was going to make ;)
Andy Marshall is dreadful. He can't kick over the half way line either. Hilarious.

Don't Almunia and Cudicini qualify for England in 2008?

No doubt they'll be picked over poor old Robert.

In my view he's the complete keeper. Yes he makes a few mistakes here and there (YAKUBU!) but if you can find me any flawless keeper I will personally pull your pants down and give you some mighty fine head right there and then.

It would be good if Green became the regular number one for England. Then I could say that I played for the same cricket club as the national goalkeeper!

Nice. Nothing compared to me playing for and against the same football team as Stevie Gee Laaa. ;)

Two years till Mikkie Arteta qualifies for England. We can but dream of finally having a good quality replacement for Beckham.

I didn't know that. Spain really should be using Our Tater. How he's not made at least one cap yet amazes me. He's only 24 as well. Still, what's Spain's loss is England's gain.

Our Tater is brilliant though. You have to watch a whole game involving him to realise his brilliance. Just watching MOTD highlights of him isn't enough. I've said it since he joined us that he's too good to be playing for us and I wouldn't begrudge him moving away. Now that we've finally started to play exciting football, he's even more at home and he's become a real world class player and the best we've had for ages.

Marshall is a good keeper, otherwise he wouldn't be playing professional football. He still should never have been in a position to be first choice ahead of a goalkeeper as talented as Robert Green. Marshall's an alright keeper, nothing special. He'll do the simple things well enough, but if you want someone who can pull of some vital diving saves, go somewhere else.

Added to that as you did say, his kicking is absolutely appaulling. Kicking is vital, it can what sets up attacks and stops a kick-counter.

I'm with Evo also. Arteta is a fantastic player, he was an amazing piece of business by Moyes. Possibly the best buy in the Premiership from the last few years, purely because a lot of Everton's play revolves around his attacking nature and his ability to put one pass through to someone that no-one else in the world could do. It's very similar to Ronaldo at United.

I thought Marshall was quite good for you... You better not beat us tomorrow :p.
Marshall is a good keeper, but yeah his kicking is poor sometimes and he makes some mistakes.

Green should be the first choice England keeper, he is better than any other keepers we have at the moment.

You thought wrong :p
We have had some pretty decent keepers (it's just the defence in front of them that let them down unfortunately):
  • Richard Wright-Mock him now if you will, he was imperious for us and near enough single handedly got us promoted in 1999-2000 along with David Johnson
  • Kelvin Davis-brilliant shot-stopper, very solid for us.
  • Lewis Price-So pleased to see him play the other day, in my opinion the only weakness he has is commanding his area, doesn't talk to his defence nearly enough.
  • Shane Supple-A name for the future, has all the qualities you could want in a keeper: brave, good handling, good command...Just a pity he isn't playing right now.
  • Neil Alexander-The reason Shane isn't playing, has his Marshall moments as I like to call them, but is brilliant on his day. 7 home clean sheets, and only 7 goals conceded all year at home.

Conversely we have had two real stinkers:
  • Andy Marshall-Oh boy, to play for both of the 'Old Farm' teams is something, but to play equally badly for both takes real skill. Flaps, can't kick, and is generally shaky, didn't like him at all.
  • Matteo Sereni-Money does crazy things to the mind, and we wasted about ?4m on this unknown. Didn't do too badly, but unfortunately will be remembered for his trousers and the fact that he asked to be rested for an FA Cup game, and didn't break back into the team.

You have produced a lot of very good young keeper. Richard Wright was amazing for you back in the day. The only real way to describe his ability back before he got the yips was that he Wenger bought him to be Seaman's successor.

I'll always remeber him for parrying in Gus Poyet's last minuted volley in the 2000/2001/2002? season.
