I'll always remeber him for parrying in Gus Poyet's last minuted volley in the 2000/2001/2002? season.

Unfortunately my lasting memory of seeing him play for Town will be his O.G. vs Barnsley in the Play-Off final at Wembley... Ball hit the bar and hit him on the elbow (he was stretching for the save) and went in...

Richard Wright was class for us in the 2002/2003 season. Safe as houses. Saved a few penalties as well. Went downhill after that. Massively downhill.

David Moyes is an underrated gaffer you know. Look at some of his bargain buys;

Cahill - 1.5 mill
Arteta - 2 mill
Carsley - Less than 1 mill
Lescott - 6 mill
McFadden - 1.5 mill (iirc)
Valente - I'm pretty sure he got him on a free. A free!

Okay, Per Kroldrup and Beattie didn't work out, but no manager out there is perfect. Also with Yakubu, he didn't let the fact that he'd payed 11 million for him cloud the fact that he was fat and useless at the start of the season so he benched him, made him get his fitness back and now he's a gun.

Totally agree with the quality of players. I rate Everton incredibly highly. Especially Stephen Pieenar right now ;)

However, I disagree that Moyes is an underrated manager. Anyone with any knowledge on the game and with any common sense knows he is top quality. You don't win 12 out of 14 games if you're average. It really wouldn't suprise me if he made the step up to a bigger club in the near future (No Liverpool fans, I do not think Everton are a small club! Just in relation to a Manchester United, Arsenal, Rangers, Celtic, etc).

Pienaar he's another one! He got him on loan and if the tabloids are to be believed (which they never should) then we'll only end up paying a maximum of 3 million for him.

Andy Marshall certainly flaps his arms aimlessly, I remember he did that at Carrow Road once, probably the first game I went to, and the crowd were singing 'Let's all do a Marshall, let's all do a Marshall, la la la la, la la la la'!

Not wanting to blow our own trumpet too much, but look at the players to come out of Ipswich Town (through the academy or otherwise)-judge as you will, but I think these are all quality:
  • Matt Holland-Possibly my favourite ever Town player, brilliant captain who always gave 110%
  • Hermann Hreidarsson-Loved him for his sheer determinedness, never gave up, and was fiery to boot!
  • Darren Bent-Unfortunately the move to Tottenham may have ruined his career, a steal for Charlton.
  • Darren Ambrose-A product from the Academy, like Benty, was a very decent prospect, and Newcastle probably didn't pay enough for his potential.
  • Titus Bramble-Ah Titus, everyone has seen him on MOTD and had a laugh, at Championship level he was just the same :D
  • Richard Wright-Already discussed
  • Lewis Price-Already discussed
  • Marcus Bent-Well travelled forward, recently bagged a hat-trick for Wigan. He and Darren formed a pretty decent front line.
  • Shefki Kuqi-Fan favourite for the fact that he never gave up. His shots would either be brilliant goals, or end up in the top tier!
  • Tony Mowbray-Now West Brom manager, was half of the last decent centre back pairing we had.
  • Kieron Dyer-Probably more famous for his off-field antics, still the potential to be an England player
  • Jermaine Wright-Much maligned in his time at Portman Road, ended up leaving for Leeds for more money, which gave the fans a legitimate excuse to boo him.
  • Ian Westlake-Local boy who left also for Leeds in a swap deal. His career had run its course here and it was the right time to move on.
This turned out to be a "Where are they now?" exercise, but the main thing I was trying to do is find out how these players are doing at their clubs now if people have seen them?

Norwich have also developed many players. ;)

These were not so much from the academy, but players we have bought and after one great season or so moved on:

  • Robert Green - our goalkeeper for more than five years and, tonight, described as the best goalkeeper in England
  • Dean Ashton - scored many important goals with his height when we were in the Premier League. A very able striker, who was undoubtebly going to stay in the top flight.
  • Craig Bellamy - a livewire, but he found his feet with us, and he is a long term Premier League player and Wales international now.
  • Chris Sutton - started his career at the Canaries, and fired Blackburn to the Premier League title and scored over 150 league goals in his career.

There are many more that have deserved more than they have got.

Norwich having the choice between signing Peter Crouch or Darren Huckerby permanently after their loans finished and Worthington picking Huckerby = Megalolz.

to be fair, huckerby has been successful in his own right

just not as much as crouch :D

Well. He had a good season and a half and then he did what he always threatened. To become an unfit, fat, waste of space with a dreadful work rate. I don't see why Worthington signed a guy just over 30 with about 2 years left in him max. Over a low-mid 20's ladder who was gaining massive attention.

:D
