The end of the 2007 premiership season saw the Essendon Bombers lose two greats. Kevin Sheedy was unfortunately sacked from the Essendon coaching panel last year, which proved to be a massive loss to the Essendon Football Club after Sheedy's countless years of service to the Essendon Football club.
An even greater loss for the dons was that of James Hird. The club Legend served 253 games for the Essendon football club and from that formed a memorable playing career. The loss of the retired leader will be a huge loss to Essendon, but it is not a time of dissapointment or grief as it is not time to look towards the club's future.

Several youngsters will now need to step up for Essendon, all with promising signs for their future careers. The players in question are Darcy Daniher, Kyle Reimers, Leroy Jetta, Bachar Houli, Patrick Ryder and many more.
They will be supported well by the seniors of the club in Scott Lucas and skipper Matthew Lloyd, and of course recently returned superstar Adam Ramanauskas.

The 2008 season for Essendon looks to be a very promising one, with plenty of young with plenty of youngsters yet to show their worth but also with alot more youngsters climbing through the ranks. Finals footy is definately not out of the equation - alot of work is required but if all goes well on matchday, a Grand Final berth is definately on the cards.

Join Ibitmybut and Roofrom50 as they lead the Essendon football club to a hopeful Premiership season.

Essendon 2008 Season ahead.

Leaders

Matthew Lloyd - The new Captain is taking over a huge responsibility left vacant by James Hird at the end of last season. Lloyd has accepted the challenge of leading this wonderful club in 2008/2009. The 30 year old Veteran of 231 games has been with Essendon since making his debut, and was a huge factor in their 2000 Grand Final win against Melbourne. Lloyd has kicked over 800 goals in his AFL Career, and now coming towards the end of his career, he will be looking to win another premiership medallion to top off a wonderful career.

Mark McVeigh - Has been a good servant to the club. Always gives his best on the field. Has had some trouble off the field, but has certainly learnt from those mistakes, and now he finds himself in the Leadership group of the Bombers, and as one of Essendon's Vice Captains. Mark has played 162 games and is travelling nicely. Only 27, McVeigh will be looking to lead his team with Lloyd to try and bring a premiership to this club.

Dustin Fletcher - The heart and sole of the Essendon Football Club. This year, Fletcher and his father will break the all time Father & Son games record, if Fletcher can hold another few games. This will most likely be Dustin's last year at Senior Football, Fletcher is 33 during the season, and with 259 games experience, he will be hoping to finish his career off in a fashionable manner. Fletcher has been a great player over his time, just like his father. Fletcher will become a life member at the Bombers at round 12, as he plays 300 official AFL games, including International Rules and State of Origin matches.

The Young guns

Angus Monfries - Arguably the best young player on the Bombers list. Monfries is only 21 and had the experience of 53 games experience, but this kid has a bright future ahead of him. Originally from South Australia, Monfries will be a big inclusion into the midfield this year, with the departure of James Hird at the end of last season. Monfries, known as a small forward, wants more time in the midfield, so he will need to get himself super fit, to fill the role of a champion.

Brent Stanton - Along with Monfries, Brent Stanton will need to fill big shoes this year. Stanton also wants a main stint in the midfield this year, and at the age of 22, Stanton will need to prove to his coach he can run in the midfield. Stanton has been used on the wing and across half back as a sweeper in the past by Sheedy. Stanton is becoming more experienced in the midfield after 76 matches to date.

Rookies - Kyle Reimers - Has a huge future ahead of him. Has played well in the VFL Side Bendigo over the past season and a bit. Now in 2008, is his chance to prove he has what it takes in the AFL. Reimers made his debut last season with the Bombers, but didn't really prove himself. Now after a big pre - season, Bombers fans should be excited about what they are going to see from this kid.

Leroy Jetta - Came onto the scene last season. In his first match last season kicked 3 goals for the Bombers against the Crows at Aami Stadium. He certainly looked the goods. But lack of confidence bought him down. Now after a pre season in the gym, and a strong pre season on the track. Jetta is fastly becoming Essendon's main roving/crumbing forward. Expect big things from this kid this season.
