Fact of the Day Friday 3rd December:

I'll let you know on the full team run down on Monday, but to get you guessing over the weekend, the Classic squad includes 20 members of which 6 are English, 5 Australian, 5 from the West Indies, 2 from South Africa and 1 each from India and Pakistan.

Anyone care to guess on who they are? If anyone gets it right (unlikely I know but it's an honest offer), I'll send them a Codies game and goodie bag.

Wat the hell then how do we play classic matches if there are not more classic players. There is only 20 classic squads i thought each team will have 20 men classic squads like for India england aussies etc

No, Rubbergenius is talking about the classic team, not all the teams for the classic matches. Theres a classic team (like a all-time XI) and teams for classic matches.

Yeah.Now we can't have Gavaskar and Kapil Dev.We can have only one.Same thing for Pakistan(Miandad,Imran Khan,Mohammed).Oh well,at least we have 5 aussies.

I think this indicates that 1 Indian and 1 Pakistani is pretty much fair, if not dead on. I know its only batsmen and only their averages but if you look you will see that the Indian batsmen with the best averages (Dravid, Sehwag and Tendulkar) are still playing, therefore, not classic. Regardless, just look at the names before you get down to Miandad or Gavaskar; Bradman, Pollock, Sobers... I guess what will say how fair it really is will be who is picked for England, Australia and the Windies. Personally I reckon Imran Khan and Sunil Gavaskar will get the spots.

Apart from Sunil Gavaskar, I would have thought that Kapil Dev and one of India's famed spinners (Bedi, Prasanna, Chandrashekhar, Vengatraghvan or Baloo Gupte) would have warranted a place.

From Pakistan's Side I would have picked three (maybe two) out of Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Zaheer Abbas and Wasim Akram ( as he's retired now)
