Quarter Time
The West Coast Eagles are absolutely dominating Fremantle at Subiaco Oval today. The Eagles kicked the first sevengoals of the game, and have had their best ever first quarter in 8.7.55. Their previous best was 8.4.52 against Carlton in round 15, 2003.
The Eagles had the first 11 inside 50s, and still lead the count 24-4.
The Eagles led by as much as 49 points at the 15 minute mark of the first term, before Matthew Pavlich kicked a superb boundary on the run for the Dockers, finally putting them on the scoreboard.
Mitchell Brown had kicked the first goal of the afternoon within 48 seconds of the beginning of play, marking a drilled pass from Mark Lecras at about 15 metres out, and converted the goal from dead in front.
Josh Kennedy then was given a free kick from around 50 out on a 45 degree angle, and was able to slot that through to give the Eagles a 2 goal lead.
Midfielder Matthew Priddis then joined in the action after Nicholas Naitanui got the tap down to him from a ball up deep in Fremantle's defensive 50, and Priddis made no mistake kicking it through.
Mitchell Brown then doubled his tally, converting another set shot, this one from 30 on a tough angle. Quentin Lynch then banged one home from outside 50, before Rosa managed to break through a series of tackles and goal a minute later.
The West Coast were now leading 7.7.49 to Fremantle's 0.0.0. but Matt Pavlich kept the Dockers alive three minutes later.
Ben McKinley then cancelled Pavlich out however, a remarkable 23 seconds later, kicking a goal on the run from 50 out right on the boundary.
Des Headland however gave Fremantle something to cheer about, dribbling through a mesmeric goal from the boundary line with 0:23 remaining on the clock.
Interestingly however, Fremantle have only had ten less possessions than the Eagles, and 20 less inside 50's. If Mark Harvey is aware of these statistics, he will no doubt be making some changes for the second quarter.
