FOOTBALL Fifa 12 - console and PC!

Is it still ridiculously hard to take players on using the stupid skill stick methods.
I much prefer pes for that, just simple changes of pace and direction and my old favourite the go to shoot then dummy, just love using a good skillful player to rinse an opponent.

On fifa i find i can be messi or ronaldo and its the same as being a vidic or a carragher, just cant take players on

I find it's much easier to take defenders on with the right player without using any fancy skills apart from precision dribbling. :) With someone like Messi now, don't let him get past you - you're not going to catch him. Speed kills now. ;)

Sounds quality..

That was another big spoiler for me, all players felt as fast or slow as each other to me, you always knew the defender would catch you up and out power you off the ball.

I installed the demo today and boy it was amazing. Loved the presentation. And yeah that speed thing Steve mentioned is true. Messi feels like Messi, No more poor slow Messi of FIFA 11. People may complain that the skill moves are a bit difficult to accomplish but hey Football is not all about all that skill stuff. If EA got the other dribbling, set pieces and ball physics right they have a pretty darn good game at hand.
I had a beautiful buildup with Messi-Villa doing 1-2 passes and going through the defense of Milan without much problem. I had Messi in a 1 on 1 situation with GK but its a shame i hit the bar. Still i was happy coz all of it felt like real football. The slower pace of the game is a welcome change, so now we can build up plays.

----------

Thank God... No more Superman Defenders this time around.

----------

Anyone knows how to sprint?
And why on earth FIFA12 is showing the controls for Logitech Gamepad only? Is that some promotion thingy? Most of the games of this decade use XBOX 360 Gamepad as the deafult one.

P.S: Who else is getting this on PC?

----------

I struggled throughout the match as this was my first game and i skipped the tutorial as i couldn't wait any longer :p
Still managed to win by 1-0 thanks to typical Messi Goal. Did anyone else had a moment when Messi automatically did the scissors skills to beat the defenders? Maybe i pressed some button accidently :p

Have been a PESer for 10 years or so, but got annoyed with PES 10's reffing amongst others. Tried both demos, FIFA 12 is miles ahead and the defending system is very interactive. I like it.

I tried PES 12's second demo today and the controls seem better than the first demo. It's a good game, but Fifa 12 is quite a way ahead. I watched both games carefully for runs made by the front players, and both seem to do it well - PES 12 is maybe a little ahead in that department, but not a great deal. Also, there are some key annoyances with PES 12: instead of holding a trigger down to run (the further down you hold it, the faster you run), you have to keep tapping the button, I hate that. Also, what's with this 'manual pass button' in PES? I don't want to have to press a button to play a manual pass, I just want to choose manual controls for everything in the setup and have done with it! Then there's the constant 'thud, thud, thud' of the ball being kicked - it just lends a real arcadey air to PES; I thought they'd done away with that in PES 10, but no they thought it should come back. For some reason.

All being said though, PES 12's presentation leaves Fifa's in the gutter dying in its own blood - Fifa 12 would be truly awe inspiring if it had similar levels of detail. I'm thinking more of the off pitch cutscenes, but PES' on pitch presentation is better as well - the stadium just feels more alive with managers on the touchline and various other people running about. But Fifa has it where it really counts: the gameplay. :D

So, Fifa 12 is pre ordered and PES 12 might join it further down the line for BaL; it doesn't sound like EA have worked at all on BaP in Fifa 12. Having said that, Fifa 12's Career Mode is looking so good, I might not care about BaP/BaL. :D

Can someone please give me step to step instructions on how to make a PS3 controller work on PC (Windows 7 x64 laptop)? I have read a bunch of sites and followed the instructions but none of them seem to actually work.

Played both demos again. FIFA dosen't feel right, it lacks the realism to make it better than PES this year.

Played the ps3 demo today.

Wow!!!! what a game this is going to be,, i was a pes man till 2008 then i gave fifa a chance as pes had hit a brick wall, enjoyed fifa 09 and 10 but by 11 i see no improvement.

But this demo has given me the one thing i wanted from a fifa, the ability if in control a skillful player you can actually take on defenders, messi feels like messi, you give me space im gonna destroy you..

I have both demos pes12 and fifa 12 and fifa eats pes up and spits it out all day long.. bring on the 30th of september, pre order is going in..

Shooting is very hard for me on the demo, anyone else with the same problem?

I can't seem to get into space. As soon as I make a couple of touches the defenders are all over me and my team mates are never in a position to take a good pass.

However, when it's my team defending, my defenders won't even do anything at all to shut down the opponent unless I get to them myself, which is quite difficult at times with the new defending system, and the opposing team always has a selection of a few players in space.

AI is really shaky, I feel it's been quite unbalanced for the last few games.

I just hope career mode is good enough for me to be able to play just that while barely playing the game itself.

Defending is well difficult in FIFA 2012 but I guess it is down to timing and practice. Have to say, I'm not overwhelmed at how the game plays, was expecting something a lot better. I enjoy the fact the game is slightly slower so it's easier to build an attack and pick out passes rather than being hassled by a defender the millisecond you get the ball. Not having the problem with shooting, finding it a lot easier than last years game!

The problem I have with the game is the dynamism in attack, the only way you seem to be able to get players to move well off the ball is to do a 1-2. Sometimes when I do the button for sending a player on a run he does go, but not in a good way, just runs straight rather than somewhere useful. The other thing is that it only sets one player off, say there are two players running towards the box if I press L1, then it's always the closest player that is indicated to set off.

Gonna try a few more games, obviously it's difficult to get into it when you only get 3 minutes in a half but thought it would be far better than it is.

Also, this collision system isn't as great as they say it is.

Do you mean finishing one on ones? I'm finding them a lot more tricky as well - apparently, it's down to timing the shot correctly.

What level are you playing on? Forget Legendary and forget World Class - this new defensive system has introduced something of a learning curve. Drop down to professional until you're comfortable with it. Anything lower than professional though and the AI don't run at their top speed - why do EA have to tie player's top speed to the difficulty level?

Same advice I gave above - if you jumped straight into Legendary as we usually do, forget that and drop to professional until you've got used to the game's subtle differences, not least TD.

Regarding the Impact Engine, I'm not completely sold on it just yet. It has great potential, but right now it's rather buggy.

Seems to me that Professional level is the sweet spot with this demo - I see players making runs all the time and they're not always straight ahead either, sometimes they're diagonal and provide much needed support.

Yeah I usually prefer legendary or world class. Professional is a bit more manageable but still, the defending is very wonky. I don't enjoy just having one touch, I like to have two when going for a shot because it just makes the goal a lot better looking and more realistic, but that dosen't even seem possible because there'll be a defender on you in a second... But the AI can just waltz through my defence with it's brilliant runs and brilliantly powerful and accurate shots.

It'll be much better online for sure.

I'm struggling in defending too but I like it. You have to plan in defense too now. My Attack is nice and I've penetrated the defense of CPU countless times. Need to Improve the finishing. Can anyone give a tut on Free Kicks from 30 yards or less? I never scored a goal from them.

P.S: I too started at Legendary but after a dozen games i dropped down to Professional. :p
