Seen some gameplay of this... Looks like the same old arcadey tosh to me.

Animations, graphics and licenses are good, but they only help so much - the game it's built on is awful at simulating football.

I prefer the visuals in PES. The likenesses are just amazing.

The lack of Arabic commentary is a big loss for FIFA PC, and I don't like how the the EA Sports devs are trying to say PC is on par with console when such an important feature is missing from PC.

While I sympathise with the Arabic community for not having their language in the game, it's hardly a real deal breaker. I'd buy Fifa 12 even if it had no commentary at all.

As for PES' likenesses being better, that is usually the case but this year for me, Konami have well and truly dropped the ball with them this year.

Here's a prime example:

Rooney in PES 12. He looks like a flippin' Left for Dead footballer mod - and many other faces are like that as well. The only thing missing is some blood dripping from their mouths.

There are other examples - and it's not just a case of still shots either. They look like that in motion as well.



Compared to:

Rooney in Fifa 12. The difference is stunning and anyone who says otherwise has PES stencilled across their retinas. Whatever happens about the gameplay side of things, no one can say that PES 12's likenesses are better than Fifa 12's. Not this year, Jose.

The one thing that really annoyed me in Fifa 11 PC was the fact that the defensive line was too high and over the top throughballs lead to too many goals. Nothing much has changed in Fifa 12 - at lower levels, but at the higher levels there is a video that shows a much more solid defensive line. The player tries on about four or five occasions to put a ball over the top and fails each time - the defenders eat them up for breakfast.

Edit: That Rooney shot isn't a good example, but there is evidence of Fifa 12's players showing proper facial expressions, like this one:

Look at the Real defender's expression. He looks concerned about Messi's impending connection with that overhead kick.

Way to make a comparison - photo of a screen vs. proper screenshot .

FIFA wins in animations, and some close-up graphics, but the gameplay is pathetic in comparison to PES.

Come off it; screenshot, or photo of a screen you can see the Fifa likenesses are superior this year. Anyone can see even in the actual videos that the PES faces do not look right. Someone who's got the PC demo said they look like 'rubber'.

That is a bloody zombie footballer - it wouldn't look out of place in Left 4 Dead.

is a gameplay video of Fifa 12 on a proper difficulty level; most of the others are on amateur as you can tell by the speed the defenders are running at.

Quick off topic, Madman: Tennis Elbow impressed me when I played it back in the day - does 2011 feature a proper career mode?

Edit: 'Gameplay is everything'. Not really a mantra I believe in, in this day and age, we should have great gameplay and great graphics.

Yes, it features a full World Tour mode with player development, as well as a full ATP Tour calendar with a properly calculated rankings and hundreds of real players.

I think gaming is poisoned these days by the importance placed on graphics, developers can tend to neglect the gameplay and still receive praise for making it look pretty...

Top Spin 4 looks nice graphically, but I'd take Tennis Elbow 2011 over it every time.

Wow - I'm going to see about grabbing a demo for that right now, it sounds like the sort of tennis game I've been waiting for since... Tennis Elbow.

One of the things that really annoys me about modern tennis games is their habit of starting a tournament in the quarter finals - and not giving you an option to save until you complete the whole damn tournament! Only one game came close to a proper tournament structure - Tennis Masters 2003 (after some fairly heavy modding).

Edit: After watching the video I linked to, if you still think it's 'arcadey tosh', then that's fair enough but you can't judge Fifa 12 on those other videos. They're all set on amateur and make the game look really bad. No build up play, just a throughball and rush through on goal. That's not the case in the video I linked to.

There's no such problem with this game - you have to play all of the qualifying rounds if your ranking isn't high enough, and you start off right at the bottom playing "Futures" and "Challengers" events.
That's unless you start as an established player - you can play as pretty much any player since 1990 and take control from any year between 1990-present, or start off in the present. You watch players come and go as they turned pro/retired in real life, really cool .

Watched that video... And yeah I'm afraid I still think it looks terrible, as I said in the PES thread, FIFA just does so many of the basics wrong, it's like EA really have no understanding of football.
Talented programmers, no football brains.

Fair enough amigo - I'll make my judgement when I can play the game. And thanks again for the Tennis Elbow info (what a godawful name, eh?)

Wayne Rooney should look like a zombie from Left 4 Dead, he is really that ugly.

But yeah, likenesses should be better in FIFA this year. Hopefully they improve the FIFA gameplay.

Another gameplay video:

It proves four things:

1. The defensive lines are sorted.
2. The lob over the top isn't going to work all the time any more.
3. The heading physics have been improved.
4. The attacking AI has been significantly improved.

And some more good news: there's a guy tweeting about Fifa 12's current build who is usually extremely critical about the game - he's not being very critical now!

Looks like some playtesters are giving a more recent code of Fifa 12 a run through (Preview code 'pretty much complete version'). This first tweet will cheer people up.

There's also a preview from Suffwan coming on FSB today around 4pm for those that are interested and most likely more previews over the next coming days.
