FOOTBALL Fifa 12 - console and PC!

Hey Steve can you enlighten me on the topic of this Ultimate Team? I think this is the first time we are going to have it on PC. I've already preordered the game and this is what I'm getting as an offer.
"24 Gold packs (4 packs per month for 6 months) to build your dream club in FIFA 12 Ultimate Team (will be given for each order)."
"Improve your Ultimate Team and experience the excitement of opening your monthly gold packs. Each pack is a mix of 12 items, including players, contracts, stadiums, managers, staff, fitness, healing, balls, kits and badges. Gold Packs consist of players rated 75+ in-game and include one rare item. Rare items include enhanced player attributes, longer contracts and the most coveted players."

From what i understand, its a manager/player mode similar to the old career modes of Fifa only difference being that its online. You will groom your players and trade player with others? If its that then it would be really awesome.

P.S: Flipkart is awesome for preordering games in India. Price of Fifa 12 pc version is around 20 $ and its free home delivery with a 4gb Flash Drive. And add all those Gold pack stuff to it too. Sweet deal i guess :p

You field a football side according to the players you get from the trading packs (inc. kits). Theres an online aspect to it as well I believe and you earn points by generally winning matches which in turn can purchase more packets.

Each varying level of cards (silver, gold etc.) have has its respective rarity levels. For instance, you'd probably get an Messi or something in a goldpack whereas you wouldn't in a silver or lesser pack.

Wow... Then those 24 gold packs would surely give serious advantage to those who preorder the game:eek:

Seriously, I played it for a week or something with FIFA 11 and I just never touched it again after that. Never found enough value in it to play it over MM.

Sorry Angry, I have no idea as I've never played it. :)

Fifa 12 demo's out. ;)

My opinion? It's awful.

Awfully good, that is. Note first of all, I'm playing on professional. :) Wow, what a game EA have given us! The game is slower, you have to pick your passes, you actually have to build your play now. When a speedy player like Messi gets the ball, you can see it as he blitzes past people. No more magnetic defenders where a speed player is unable to get away! Commentary is so-so. The atmosphere is also so-so, but hopefully that's because it's a demo - audio is often better in the full game.

Speaking of which, the ball audio is too quiet! No biggie I know, but you can barely hear the ball even from a whumping great goal kick down field. Some of the physics are a bit odd - when playing a pass or shot at full speed, it seems to 'ping' off the player's foot a bit too much. I'm sure that can be adjusted with sliders though.

The game is even more physical now, but in a good way - due to the Impact Engine. I haven't seen any real oddities with that yet.

It seems now that it's actually possible to go on a mazy dribble without employing some unrealistic skill move all the time - but that doesn't mean you can just run through the whole opposition. The AI is a lot better - like you, the AI build their play now. They're devious in attack and organised in defence - no more endless throughball goals methinks.

I love the new Tactical Defending - it does indeed revolutionise the way you defend and is responsible for some of the game's new found slower pace.

Some truly beautiful football is possible now, little intricate passes are possible.

The AI do seem to shoot (and score) a bit too much from long range right now (with the aforementioned 'ping' off the foot) and there's a weird bug: whenever the ball hits the post, the controls screen comes up. :?

Offside decisions seem less 'robo-insta-decision' now - and players react to being given offside. Maybe, just maybe, EA have taken a leaf out of PES' book and made offside goals more unpredictable? Has anyone scored an offside goal yet? Other nice touches: when making subs, you see the players run off and high five each other. If there are two subs, you'll see all four players - haven't tried three yet. ;) Celebrations are getting there. They're more varied, but still not in PES' class.

Overall though, this is a great football game! Even if you're a diehard PES head, try this demo out. It's yet another case of not being able to judge a game from watching videos. This game doesn't feel like Fifa 11 at all (at least not the PC version). From what I played of the console version, it's a significant step up from that as well.

My pre order is safe - I'm looking forwards to getting my hands on the full game!

Played the demo most of the afternoon.

First the positives;

+ I'm a big fan of the shooting, it's got a good ping to it and finesse shots when pulled off are excellent.

+ Keepers; will wait for PES second demo to compare the two but FIFA's were pretty solid if a little poor at positioning on crosses.

+ Sound, excellent.

+ The ball physics in general. Lots of nice touches and it travels well across the pitch. The pace of the game benefits nicely as a result.

Sadly, the negatives

- The attacking AI. After playing this I now realise how far EA are behind in this department. There is no urgency by your team mates, they either stand still and wait for you to pass, and when you do trigger them to run, they just leg it in a straight line until they reach the oppositions back four. It removes any sense of life from the game, everything seems so flat.

- Inertia, or lack thereof. It's just not got any sense of speed progression.

- The impact engine. I've had numerous occasions where it's looked pretty. But my GOD, it's buggy as hell. I've jumped for a header and my player has got his leg around the neck of the opponent, polaxed him to the floor, and I'VE got the freekick. Some of the resulting animations are hilarious, but it needs to be fixed for release.

- Crossing is far to easy to perfect and just in an afternoon of play I've worked out how to conjure goals easily from the byline on Legendary. (Get to the byline, trigger run, stop the ball dead, and whip it low into the six yard box. Ah voila.)

- Tactical Defending. Great idea, badly executed. It's inconsistent and doesn't reward defending as it should. Watch a game and you'll see what I mean. Players stand off, and go in for the tackle. They don't wait for the player to pass them and then stick out a feeble foot. It's broken in its current state.

I know that's a lot of negatives, but the biggest is definately the AI. It is seriously a million miles behind PES this year it's quite embarrasing for EA. I do however love the ball physics and the shooting, and the pace of the game is nice.

However, I'll be playing the final code PES #2 demo tomorrow for a comparison. If it improves on the beta demo, which it has rumoured to have done in leaps and bounds, I can't look past that this year due to the AI and the way it plays.

Just played a few games on the demo. I'm finding defending really hard. Lowered the difficulty to professional and still struggling to win the ball back.

I played the demo and TBH I really don't like the faces in the game. I will try out PES 12 in 2 hours.

I've got FIFA09 and PES10 but I'm not sure I see the point of spending ?40 on the new versions of FIFA or PES.
Only reason I can think of is the squads, kits, teams and I've got them all up to date anyway. Nothing else that jumps out to me as justifying the money to upgrade.

Ditch auto-contain, it's useless. Use jockey and run jockey to get into position - and if you haven't, try the defending tutorial. :)

The squads and the teams were the only reason I used to buy FIFA each year. Having the updated teams and player skills makes manager mode feel so much more authentic and it's easier to find a good game online. The online squads are also up to date.

Going to try the FIFA demo tomorrow hopefully. What's this about a second PES demo?

Fifa 12 is far more than a squad update - it's the first step in an exciting new direction for Fifa and let's hope EA have the balls to stay on it and not bow down to the crybabies at EA forums.

I do like the new defending, it now means you can no longer be ████ at this game and get away with it. You have to think about what you do off the ball rather than just let everyone close the attackers down and push them off the ball.

That's one of my favourite things about the game - you do have to think more, both on and off the ball. :)
