More sales doesn't = better product.
More Toyota Corollas have been sold than Ferrari F430s, the Wii has massively outsold the 360 and PS3... I could go on.
Gaming PCs are the best machines for gaming in technical terms, there is no doubt about that - the only problem is money, having to keep upgrading to get the most out of it.
Even if you like the console controllers better... Guess what? You can plug the 360 one into the PC and use them in the exact same way!
The PS3 controller can also be used on PC - clicky.
Another problem with PC gaming is the lack/delay of certain titles, but I suspect that if you have enough money to throw at your PC, you have enough to be able to afford a console too anyway.
That's the thing - myself personally, I don't really throw that much money at upgrading my PC. This idea you have to make an upgrade every few months is nonsense - the last 'upgrade' I made to my PC was a larger HDD - more to do with storage than performance.
These days, even if you have to notch the details down a little, or even a lot - most PC games still look at least as good as the console version. That's what I do - if my machine begins to struggle, I just turn things down a bit starting with AA/AF (which aren't on the consoles in any case) - they're real FPS killers. And when I do buy a new GPU, it'll be at ?120 - ?150, not ?400+. It's my experience that there's never anything out there that needs that sort of power and by the time there is, the card would've come down by ?200 or even ?300 in some cases.
PC gaming doesn't have to be hugely expensive. On my system, which is midrange at best, I can run the current generation of games at high details without any problems. It might be time for a GPU upgrade for things like BF3, but once again, I'll find a nice midrange one for around ?130 and that'll be me set for another couple of years or more. Buying top range components is just a sign of having more money than sense in my opinion.
I'm amazed that the Wii has outsold the two major consoles though.

To be honest, who really gives a crap about graphics. I wouldn't mind having Battlefield 2 graphics on console Battlefield 3. The only guys that care about graphics are the casual players and the PC gamers, I've found other people care a whole lot more about the gameplay.
Therefore, PC isn't "the future". It's just far too expensive and too much of a hassle to keep upgrading it to keep up with the latest graphics, not to mention the shoddy controls and the ease with which you can pirate and hack.
PC is better for RPG and RTS, console is better for everything else. There's a reason why PC received the dumbed down FIFA for so long...
As I said before, this idea that you have to keep upgrading is a complete myth. As for Fifa, EA Sports are pretty much the only company doing this - everyone else gives the PC more or less the same game as the consoles.
Shoddy controls are also a myth. Even outside of the Xbox 360 pad, there are several PC only pads that can do a very good job.
The PC is also the best for FPS games - keyboard/mouse is simply more intuitive than a fiddly gamepad. Proof? The majority of times I've seen CoD competitions footage, they are playing the PC version - with a mouse and keyboard.
The PC is also the best for racers - how many decent wheels are available on the consoles? And then there are mods for racers (and all other games). It's far more than just having better graphics. Look at Oblivion - look how long its life has been on PC. Can you say it would've been that long lasting without mods and so on. Not a chance.
I have to say, gameplay is what games are about. As long as the graphics are semi-decent and realistic, if the gameplay is good, then I'll buy it provided I'm interested in it.
And AP, you won't sign Messi I've tried with Man Utd and no matter what you offer him, he declines
Gameplay, graphics, sound in that order.
The console version of all multiplatform FPS always outsells the PC version. That is proof enough that the console FPS controls are better. The controller is real nice for FPS.
Not compared to keyboard/mouse - as I said before, why do the professional FPS gamers play on PC?
Autoaim doesnt mean the console FPS are better. It takes all the fun away of aiming yourself. And you can never match keyboard mouse combo. Try taking 180 degree turn in a console FPS and then in a PC FPS, you'll know what i mean
Indeed.
Selling more is no indication that the console controller is better than keyboard and mouse. It's more a personal thing but saying that console controllers are better than keyboard and mouse because console versions of the game have sold more is a joke.
True. Even with games like GTA I've found the PC to be better. I hate using a gamepad to aim in GTA, it's a pain in the neck. My way is keyboard/ mouse for walking and then pick up a gamepad for driving.
Speaking of which, is there a way to use a wheel in GTA games? That would be amazing fun, especially with the excellent first person driving view mods - on PC only of course.
As for EA giving the PC dumbed down Fifa for ages, that argument doesn't hold any water either - Konami gave the PC the same version of PES - in fact the vast majority of companies either gave the PC the same version as the consoles, or in some cases, a superior version.
Mass Effect for example, Pixel. From what I've read about the console's controls in that game, it sounds as though it would drive me mad when it comes to the menus especially.
But anyway, this has gone way off topic - due in no small part to myself, so let's get it back on an even keel; I didn't start the 'PC vs console war' in this thread though.
I'm not sure if I mentioned it already, but Ultimate Team has been confirmed officially for Fifa 12 PC. And whether we get the same game as the consoles or not, I'm looking forwards to hearing Man Utd run out at Old Trafford to the Rocky theme.
