Round of 16 Round-up
This Round of 16 was always going to be an interesting one, and it started off with the hosts Germany playing first-timers Trinidad & Tobago who almost caused a shock upset - but after 120 minutes of stalemate they were knocked out on penalties. The only other shock result was when Switzerland beat Spain 1-0, Spain once again failing to produce in the World Cup.
Results:
Germany 0
Trinidad & Tobago 0 (3-2 Penalties)
England 1
Ecuador 1 (4-3 Penalties)
Argentina 2
Mexico 0
Netherlands 0
Portugal 2
Italy 1
Brazil 1 (0-3 Penalties)
USA 2
Japan 0
Switzerland 1
Spain 0
France 2
Tunisia 1
Therefore, the Quarter-Finals look like this:
Germany vs Argentina
England vs Portugal
Brazil vs Switzerland
USA vs France
At this stage of the tournament, Michael Owen is joint top of the Goal Scorers list with 3 - but only 2 players who are on 3 goals are still in the competition with their respective countries:
So we look forward to the Quarter-Finals tommorow, where England will play Portugal - hoping to get revenge against the team which knocked them out so painfully on Penalties in Euro 2004.
England Training Report
As England play Portugal tommorow, we go over to Baden-Baden, England's base for the World Cup as we look at how the pre-match preparations are going. We were fortunate to get a word with Sven-Goran Erikkson:
Sven defends Beckham
Q. David Beckham has been criticized lately for his poor set-pieces, will you get someone else to take them if he fails to do well?
Sven: Yes, of course I will. But David is a strong lad and we all know he wants to do well and lead England out with pride. He has been practising his free-kicks and corners like crazy over the past couple of days, he will succeed for sure.
Beckham has been below-par with his corners
Penalties still important
Q. You have proved that England can take penalties under pressure, is your focus now off this?
Sven: No, of course not - penalty kicks are still important and they will be a regular in our training sessions. We weren't lucky against Ecuador, we did well - but teams like Germany and Portugal have World-Class Keepers who can save penalties with ease.
Penalty practise, although we hope it won't come to that again
Robinson is World-Class in my opinion
Q. Paul Robinson seems to be under a lot of pressure and despite some heroic saves, he has made a fair-few mistakes, what is your view on him?
Sven: In my opinion, Robinson is a World-Class keeper. He saved two penalties against Ecuador which won us the match - he has let a few past him but it's perhaps not his fault - defensive errors are very costly.

Q & A
Now from our view we can tell you what is really going on in the England Camp, and answer some questions which you may want to know.
Q. Is Wayne Rooney fit?
He's not at the top of his game if you're asking, but he is striking the ball with a lot of accuracy at the moment - good news for England fans and against Portugal he will be a major threat.
Q. Any injuries going into the game?
Nope, everyone is 100% fit going into tommorow's game, and relations between the players couldn't be better.
If you have any more questions you wish to be answered then please write back.
