FOOTBALL Football Manager Discussion

Just 4 games to go in my Wolves save. We sit 2nd still, hoping for a slip up from Southampton who lead by 4 points after we lost to Crystal Palace 2-0. 3rd placed Charlton are 5 points behind us and a win in our next game will guarentee a play-off spot, although I really do hope we don't need it.

Wolves' Last 4 Matches:
Bristol City (23rd)
Plymouth (6th)
Preston (17th)
Fulham (5th)

All four must wins, but two that I expect to dominate easily.

Southampton's Last 4 Matches:
Burnley (10th)
QPR (12th)
Leicester (7th)
Leeds (14th)

They have mainly mid-table teams, although Burnley and Leicester are still fighting for play-off spots.

Just gotta win my games and hope for the best.

Just to let you guys know, I am currently making a 'World Premier League' database for FM09. It would've been finished and ready for upload by now but the DB I made wouldn't work as I made the clubs from scratch.

The WPL replaces the Aussie A-League and has 8 teams: London Bulldogs, Sydney Force, New York Fighters, Buenos Aires Falcons, Berlin Giants, Madrid Magicians, Paris Legends and Rome Gladiators.

Each side has been given ?500mil balances with ?200mil to spend on transfers.

Each team also has a multi-millionaire chairman and a 100,000 capacity stadium.

Here are the 8 squads that were chosen by random. There are 3 'home grown' players, 6 Premiership players, 3 La Liga players, 5 'Rest of Europe' players and 5 'World's Best 40' players in each team.

I'm halfway through at the moment so it should be up (fingers crossed) tomorrow.

I know, I am. I was just mentioning it here also where some of the guys who play FM might want to download it.

Looks great mate. I would definitely download it if I had Fm09 (unfortunately just have 08). It's nice and different which I like.

2009  Can get official updates to the end of the January transfer window and unofficial ones are generally made all the time on fansites (eg. latest one with Kaka at Madrid and promotions/relegations from this season). Got bored on Live after a while with the beta. Plus, it should be pretty cheap now and you won't have to pay monthly subscriptions.

2009 it is. 8 years since I played Championship Manager.

I've been playing a fair bit of FM 08 recently. Got a few decent saves going. One in particular was one where I started in Holland as VVV Venlo, won the league and the Dutch Cup in my first season which was a pleasant surprise, but then about midway through the 2nd season got offered the United job, so took that. After a season at United, having got them from 6th at Jan to the title plus a 2-0 Champions League final victory over Barcelona I have done pretty well. The XI after a season and a half at United currently stands as:

GK: Petr Cech

LB: Patrice Evra
RB: Vedran Corluka
CB: Rio Ferdinand
CB: Nemanja Vidic

CM: Anderson
CM: Michael Essien

AMR: Cristiano Ronaldo
AML: Sebastien Giovinco

ST: Dimitar Berbatov
ST: Wayne Rooney

Then I've got back-up players that include Jesus Navas, Andrey Arshavin, Andrea Gasbaronni, Nicolas Anelka, Guiseppe Rossi and Mathieu Flamini. Anelka was a particularly pleasing signing. I noticed him on the transfer list whilst I was looking for a striker to replace the injured Rooney, and for ?7m Anelka was a bargain. He ended up scoring 14 in 13 games in the league and had a bloody good season.

I also don't know how I managed to get Cech and Essien, but they were unhappy at Chelski for them coming 5th I think it was, so I made an offer for both and was surprised to see it accepted, especially when the deal for Essien included Carrick :p. Happy with my XI, and my sub players are excellent, especially the back-up strikers, 3 world class talents. Hopefully I'll improve on the double won last season!

So, what teams have you lot started at?

Do you start at lower league teams and work your way up or dive straight into the PL?

I started with Liverpool, and I always have a Liverpool game saved but sometimes I start a new game as a lower league team with like 28 leagues from all over the world.
