Football Transfers Thread

Problem with any top side is they're going to struggle to bring through homegrown players due to the demand of the competition around them. United have plenty of very good young players past and present making it in other teams but its hard to bring a player into a premier league winning side without upsetting the fans who want a big name.

United have enough homegrown players with the potential to get in the side at the moment though. Welbeck, Fletch, James, Eckersley, Evans, Campbell (leaving).

Welbeck is destined to be an England player and i have full confidence in the lad. But it speaks volumes for real madrid when their fans have been given 200m of talent and they are still considering snatching anyone who becomes decent from other clubs. Be interesting to look at madrid 6 years down the line when all these contracts near their expirary at the same time.

Also being a united fan i have to face most players would rather play in a hot climate than anywhere in england that gives us a disadvantage. But i only want to see players who want to play for us not the guys who think they're bigger than the team also i got a little feeling we've not seen the last of ronaldo at old trafford.

We've agreed a deal for Kyle Naughton worth ?5million, and we're also getting Jo back on loan as well. Guess that's goodbye Hibbert. Nice to see Moyes doing some business before the last day of the transfer window as well.

I agree about Welbeck, he has impressed me most times I've seen him play. One little point: does 'homegrown' mean British, or English? If it means English, then Fletcher, O'Shea and Evans don't qualify (Evans plays for Ireland, doesn't he?)

Like I said it is irrespective of the nationality. Any player who has been registered by the club for a minimum of three seasons (continuous or not) between age 15-21. So Messi qualifies as home-grown for Barca, and Higuain for us, even though they are Argentines.

OK, thanks for clearing that up. Bit confusing, when they said 'home-grown', I thought they meant English. I was hoping that was the case, as that would help the National team, but as it is, it won't make any difference.

Buying five English 25-year olds so that they can be classed as 'home grown' doesn't help the National Side. You're just buying established England nationals.

I am not so sure. Incase of Manure, I would think the experience of regularly playing Champions League football would have helped the likes of Rooney, Carrick and Ferdinand develop their game.

Also, remember if many England players play for the same club, week in, week out, that can only help the National side, so yes we are helping England by buying English players, even if they are established. And if playing with Rooney again brings out Owen's class (something you never actually lose), that can only help England, as well as Utd. And it'll really piss off Liverpool! Incidentally, Fowler reckons Owen will be a success at Utd as well.

By the way, Sir Alex is making noises as to the effect that no more money will be spent this summer. No, Sir Alex! We have lost a huge player, we need a huge replacement!

Owen is ████ and will never cut it at united and we have officially closed for the summer so we're screwed. The glazers are obviously struggling, they sold shares in another business worth a fair bit and they are not letting us spend despite the fact we desperately need too, all those dickheads who said they did a good job at united should take a look at us now.

Who, the Window Glazers? A good job? Yeah, sure if you're a Liverpool/Chelsea/Arsenal supporter!

By the way, the Real Madrid coach was on SSN just now and said something like:

'I seriously think Real can contest every tournament this season.'

No ████, Sherlock! You've only spent the best part of ?200m.

MasterBlaster76 added 15 Minutes and 15 Seconds later...

Sir Alex said on SSN just now that 'there's still a month to go and anything's possible'. I reckon he's playing his cards close to his chest.

He also said that he phoned and texted Tevez while on holiday and he never got back to him. Sounds as though Tevez had made up his mind ages ago. Still, not to return calls/texts, that's a bit babyish if you ask me.

I'm a little worried about what has happened to United this summer. I just can't see them winning the Premier League without making some signings.

This reminds me so much of 94/95 you know and we were alright then (won the Double, in fact). I would like to see one ?20 - ?30m man come in though, but I think we'll be fine.

Cant remember where i read this but someone said this summer will be more about teams who manage to stay the same rather than lose players. I think this is very true because Real have weakened everyone and its not a good market to buy in at all.

Think fergie was spot on with his press conference id rather us wait a year than spunk 50m on some kid thats gonna cost half that in a years time.

Is Adebayor on his way to Man City or is it just another newspaper rumour?

Regarding Manure's transfer spendings, if Fergie takes this current squad to the Champions League final next season, then I will bow down to his greatness. Not too convinced about how Chelsea will perform under Ancellotti and never know which Liverpool will turn up, so I think the Premiership is still possible for Fergie's boys.

In other news, Stuttgart look to be closing in on Huntelaar, having had their 20 million bid for the striker accepted. The issue is whether they are willing to match his current's 3.8 million a year wages.

It was on Sky Sports News, the Adebayor thing, and they are usually spot on, so he's definitely in talks with City.
