Football Transfers Thread

Are you talking about Liverpool that thrashed Real Madrid last season? because they were very consistent last year and beat the big clubs and where not inconsistent your making them out to be. If Torres was fit for the whole season the league was Liverpool's

Why has Owen been given the No. 7 shirt?

Cant remember where i read this but someone said this summer will be more about teams who manage to stay the same rather than lose players. I think this is very true because Real have weakened everyone and its not a good market to buy in at all.

Think fergie was spot on with his press conference id rather us wait a year than spunk 50m on some kid thats gonna cost half that in a years time.

Owen's wearing the No.7 shirt!!!! Not too sure about that, but it's a real vote of confidence from the manager and says to me he intends him to be more than a bitpart player.

You need to make damn sure you hold onto Alonso.

He can go to be honest. He wants to go Madrid but we need Mascherano to stay if they both leave then where in trouble

I don't agree - I think Alonso would be a much bigger loss to you than Mascherano. Is someone sniffing around Mascherano as well then?

They're both holding midfielder's if its true Madrid want him for 35 million then I would sell him. Barcelona want Mascherano

See, that's where I'd say Liverpool are a bit stronger right now - holding midfield. I think Sir Alex has made a mistake if he puts away the chequebook now - we really need some more steel in our midfield.

True, having Hargreaves back should help a hell of a lot - almost like a new signing. Carrick's more of a ball player and I'm not too sure about Anderson as a holding midfielder.

By the way, Alonso has said he wants to quit on the back page of the Liverpool Echo (SSN). I really think you're screwed if he goes.

He was going to leave end of last season anyway. Everyone knows he wants to go Madrid

Is there anyone in the whole world who Madrid don't want? How the hell can they afford all these transfers, not to mention the ridiculous wages that'll come with them?

Madrid are going to be a proper pain to play against in Fifa 10...

Real Madrid have their own television rights something premier league clubs do not have so they can sell their rights to broadcasters and get the money themselves whereas in England the FA would get the money.

Also Madrid will make so much merchandising money from players like Ronaldo and kaka worldwide. That's why some people are saying Real Madrid got Ronaldo for free because they will probably make that money back after one year

They're doing his shirts for around ?70, aren't they? I suppose you have a point.

Edit: Tevez likely to join the Citizens in next 48hrs: SSN.

Yeah and you have crazy people who will buy them. So that's how they make money and can afford all these players

I think a new Utd shirt + Rooney/10 will cost around ?43 and it's probably the same across the board in England (Premiership top clubs, at least). Real Madrid fans are being ripped off in a very big way!

Alonso > Mascherano for me.

Owen shouldn't have been given the number 7 shirt, the biggest reason is it'll just annoy fans more. There's something still not right about him being in the shirt. I still wouldn't be surprised to see us go out and get another player despite what Fergie says, although it is obvious where a lot of the Ronaldo money is going.:rolleyes

Still, I'm optimistic about the new season, we seem to do even better after we're written off. We weren't even considered as contenders ahead of the 06/07 season and that goes down as probably my favourite title win.
