Football Transfers Thread

Will be interesting to see how Chelsea line up their mid-field with now that have got Meireles - it certainly means less game time for young McEachran thats for sure.

Arteta is a good poor man Fabregas. But i reckon they could have gotten Samba also, as Mertesacker/Samba partnership would have looked rocked solid.

Good signs that Tottenham didn't cave on Modric either, shows that their owner is certainly intent of winning things for the club instead of being a elite feeder club.

Sunderland having a good laugh. Signed two of Man U's players and got Bendtner on a loan which looks like a further permanent January signing.

Too bad Sneijder deal missed out for Man Utd though, but on the flipside United are so strong already so they'd be good without him as it pans out.

HUGE blow, that is what I think. Kenny's basically disposed all off Hodgson's signings but for our third choice goalie in Brad Jones. Meireles, Joe Cole, Poulsen, Jovanovic (not sure if it was Rafa/Roy who signed him) & Konchesky - all gone! But for the sale of Meireles, I'm not complaining on Kenny's decision though, cos the rest were all B.S for us.

Well, now Liverpool lacks creativity. You got to hope that they don't become a club like Chelsea were last season. No creativity, no chemistry.

I think it benefits everyone. I said last season that Meireles reminds me of Lampard of a few years ago, and that's what Chelsea could really do with right now. Liverpool still have Adam, Henderson, Lucas, Gerrard and Spearing. That's a fair amount of depth with a lot of different playing styles.

I know Meireles had a purple patch for quite a few matches last season, but I was never convinced of his quality. His passing game is average. He made quite a few misplaced passes last season when the team was moving forward. He broke up that fluidity and sometimes failed to keep up with the pace of the rest of the team. Also, his crosses are too flat and too fast.

I think Liverpool are well covered with Adam, Henderson, Lucas, Spearing and Gerrard when he comes back. That is only center midfield. Out wide there's Downing, Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy. I think Aquilani will be a loss though. I think he's all class and it's a shame it never worked out for him at Liverpool because when he did play, he was very, very good.

yeah it wasnt a huge loss losing Merieles, I just liked him thats all. We do have plenty of depth. Aquilani is only on loan, so we can still utilise him in the future.

You think Milan will waste the opportunity to buy him? Even if they, Aquilani will again go out on loan, the next time to Inter Milan.

Love the quote at the end. Shows good selflessness and modesty. Hope he continues to fulfil his undoubted potential, but where will it be? Real or Barca?

Going to Barcelona or Madrid could be a mistake given the amount of quality players those teams already have.

I do hope that we go for him because we desperately in need of a right winger and we have not had explosive wingers in our squad since the days of Robben and Duff.

So few players want to come to England now, and there are many good reasons for it. Firstly, there is the fact that you get the least protection from refs if you are a flair player.

Secondly, the weather is crap, the culture (certainly in relation to football) is quite vulgar. Thirdly, tax issues. If Real Madrid offer you 100,000 a week, and Man U offer you 100,000 a week you will earn more at Real Madrid.

It is crazy how many players get linked to English clubs at the moment, but almost always go to the two Spanish giants or one of the top Italian teams or even Bayern.

You only have to look at the where the biggest talents in the world have gone recently to see a worrying trend emerging. Afterall, where would you, as a player with no ties to either country or city, like to live. Madrid or Manchester? Milan or Liverpool? Barcelona or London (that one is closer to be fair, but then footballing wise it's a no-brainer).

Not to mention, that in the case of someone like Hazard. If you have the belief to believe you can be one of the top players in the world (if he doesn't, why buy him anyway) then why would you not want to play for the best team in football? Or try and be part of the Madrid revival?

Essentially though, who can Chelsea really sign these days? Man City will trump them in terms of financial clout as well as potential to win trophies, size of stadium. The Spanish clubs are just bigger and better, and even Man U have a far greater pull in regards to desire and history.

Mata is your best signing in years, and he wasn't wanted by either of the top two Spanish clubs and was at Valencia, a club crippled with debt and needing t sell.
