Aquillani had a buyout trigger in his contract that meant if he played a certain number of games milan had to buy him. the fact that he came within playing 1 or 2 games of that clause and then disappeared from the team suggests milan had no intention of triggering the automatic buyout.

I think he'd have been good but milan are loaded with central midfielders right now and probably intend montilivio to take aquillani's role next year.

Safe to say M'Vila had an average Euros. He didn't look too bad when he played, but only two starts and one appearance off the bench, not really enough for a holding midfielder to show his stuff.

Rennes' plan of increasing his value obviously failed - he is as good as ours now for 11-14 m as opposed to the 17 m he would have costed prior to the tournament, or 21 m last summer. The only reason he wouldn't come is if we don't want him really, as he hasn't done enough to prove himself as a better target than Javi Martinez for Utd or City, he is not wanted by Dortmund, and Inter are far behind Arsenal as a club. Plus he isn't near good enough for Barca or Madrid, even if they want him.

Possible title challenge with him as even if he doesn't start it'll be the addition of much needed depth to the midfield. If we can get an AM (Honda), a cheap, experienced backup GK (Gordon, Sorensen) it could be a serious title challenge for a large part of the season. Would be good as long as we don't lose Sagna for a large part of the season, or an LB or CB. Since it's only June though, anything can happen, perhaps more bench signings can be made, depending on whether we offload the deadwood.

RVP isn't going anywhere, his family want him to stay, and no-one really wants him. Cavani and Falcao are much better targets for Juve and Man City.

The fact is since we are getting our business done early, there won't be a collapse at the start of the season. Without that collapse where we lost at least 5-10 points, we would have made a title challenge even last season. Anything can happen. I suppose things aren't looking as bad as last season.

I don't think Modric will be at Utd next season now - Real are interested and he's already said he'd like to play for Mourinho.

Sod it, let's bid for Iniesta. :p :p :p

If United don't get Modric or Cabaye that would be a great disappointment.

Now we have Kagawa, although I'd love to see a Modric, my priority for Utd is a solid midfield ball winner/holding midfielder, call it what you like. :)

Whether or not Modric is available, Javi Martinez should easily be United's first priority.

Everyone was clamouring for just a good playmaker, while keeping the current strike options, but with Kagawa and Martinez that would be the best of both worlds, plus Rooney at striker could work well. Though he may not be available, as a bidding war will probably start between Utd, City, Bayern and possibly Real and Barca,

Debuchy/Piszczek is required too. Debuchy is leaving, and he should be easy to get as Newcastle aren't much competition, and I'm sure Evra could help convince him Utd is better than Chelsea. They are anyway.

Btw, anyone see Kagawa yesterday with his new pair of pyjamas:p?

You're referring to the woeful new Utd kit presumably? It's going to be embarrassing watching us, no matter how well we play!

yes madrid showing interest in modric for 30m so buying modric deal gone now for man utd :( surely i am very dissapointed to see that still man utd not finding a perfect and a quality mid fielders over the years :(

I really dont see why United want Modric, when Martinez or another defensive CM should be priority.

If we sign De Rossi..

I have a feeling it's going to be yet another summer without any new faces in that central midfield area...
