Football Transfers Thread

ESPN is in no way good with rumours. Posting old things tons of times with new titles doesn't help them.

Just see how quick the rumours were hit with a confirmation.

Oliver Giroud signs for Arsenal. As a second class arsenal fan I absolutely welcome that move. Good on you gunners. :p

To be fair, he's been quite good at that in the past. ;) Remember that Cleverley looked really good at the start of the season, but then he picked up a bad injury. I'm not too sure about Jones as the holding midfielder though - but if Sir Alex does go with that, especially if it comes off, it can only help England.

Ye for sure man, that would be the perfect scenario from an English perspective.

I think if you look at it, one of the things that Spain have going for them is the number of important partnerships they have at club level, that also carry into the international team - not least Xavi and Iniesta at Barca, Puyol and Pique - I think that's very important for an International team to succeed.

Modric would be a great signing, but really, the need for some creativity or a good playmaker is lessened with the signing of Kagawa, playing as a SS.

Man U fans are gonna be sorely dissapointed next year when Scholes just doesn't have the legs to run a game for anywhere near a whole season. If Kagawa doesn't adapt instantly and prove to be awesome, it's going to be a long season for Man U fans. Europe will again be out the question and a top 4 finish is by no means guaranteed considering Arsenal and Chelsea have strengthened well. They need to hope Liverpool/Spurs/Newcastle don't get off to a stormer.

(No doubt Man U will somehow finish 2nd again due to Ferguson being an absolute boss).

Forgetting Mr. Cleverley? Really I'm expecting him to be first choice over Scholes, that's how much Utd seem to believe in him. Scholes won't be an automatic choice all season by any means, agreed.

The need for a ball winner is greater because of this, Scholes and Cleverley are decent. One was absolutely amazing, the other has a great chance to follow in his partner's footsteps. Plus creativity is still available from Kagawa. Quality in the ball winning role isn't really there yet.

Plus I feel the ball winning role is more vital to United's system.

I still think Chelsea need to strengthen elsewhere too. Hazard is a great signing and Hulk would be too, but really that isn't going to solve all their problems and no guarantees either will be great off the bat. Same with Arsenal, two attacking players doesn't solve all the problems.

Spurs with a new manager will be an interesting one too.

haha PD you seemed to be taking it personally ;)

I think what we all mean to say is that knowing Ferguson and the fact that we dont have finances like City, our first priority would be to get a DM and a striker. If we still have money to spare, we can then go for Modric.

Hmm let me rephrase, PD who in your opinion should be Uniteds next target?

Striker no longer needed. Rooney is your striker, Kagawa is a Rooney replacement.

Really, it won't be that rigid a system up top with both of them, I'm sure they'll be switching positions a lot and all. Allows a bit more freedom than before.

Yeah a lot is up the air. Cleverley needs to get and stay fit. I also feel Ashley Young isn't exactly mentally strong, and could struggle to make any kind of impact for a while.

End of the day, Kagawa is a slight gamble, Cleverely is unproven yet (although I hope he has a big year) and Scholes is genuinely old. If Arsenal's new signings adjust quickly and Chelsea start well (they're Champions League champions afterall) Man U could struggle. Although of course the need for a ball winner is somehwat negated by the return of one of the best centre backs in the world.

My issue is that for the last few years Man U have not retained the ball anywhere near well enough. They've lacked the centrally based incision, and a lot of their play is based on Valencia delivering excellent service at the moment or Young cutting in. They needed to recall Scholes, and I keep hearing how important he was that he should have played for England. Well if his legs don't work as well this year and Kagawa doesn't adjust, could be tough for United to find the penetration they lack.

As I said though, Ferguson will no doubt guide them to 2nd with a string of last ditch winners and equalisers in games they've been outplayed, just because he's that good.
