Football Transfers Thread

Yeah a lot is up the air. Cleverley needs to get and stay fit. I also feel Ashley Young isn't exactly mentally strong, and could struggle to make any kind of impact for a while.

End of the day, Kagawa is a slight gamble, Cleverely is unproven yet (although I hope he has a big year) and Scholes is genuinely old. If Arsenal's new signings adjust quickly and Chelsea start well (they're Champions League champions afterall) Man U could struggle. Although of course the need for a ball winner is somehwat negated by the return of one of the best centre backs in the world.

----------

My issue is that for the last few years Man U have not retained the ball anywhere near well enough. They've lacked the centrally based incision, and a lot of their play is based on Valencia delivering excellent service at the moment or Young cutting in. They needed to recall Scholes, and I keep hearing how important he was that he should have played for England. Well if his legs don't work as well this year and Kagawa doesn't adjust, could be tough for United to find the penetration they lack.

As I said though, Ferguson will no doubt guide them to 2nd with a string of last ditch winners and equalisers in games they've been outplayed, just because he's that good.

The fact is, no matter how good a player is, after spending so long out with an injury, it will take them a while to get back to their best and playing regularly. Vidic is no exception, don't expect him to have a mind-blowing season where he is considered the best CB in the world.

It might take a while for Vidic to get fit, the important midfield signing to settle, as well as Kagawa to settle, but in the end, this is Utd - that should all be sorted out by the middle of the season, then expect an immaculate end to the season.

Overall I'm confident Utd will do the business and get who's required, and finish at least second this season, no Hazards and no Hulks are going to change that. I would say Hazard and Hulk would find it harder to adapt than Kagawa, especially Hulk. Same goes for Giroud and Podolski, Kagawa will settle quicker and an M'Vila type wouldn't be nearly as good as the sort of players Utd are targetting, such as Javi Martinez and Modric.

Spurs need to replace Kranjcar, they won't get a good back-up player like him easily.

To be fair replacing Redknapp was key since he never actually used the backup players :p

Man U fans are gonna be sorely dissapointed next year when Scholes just doesn't have the legs to run a game for anywhere near a whole season. If Kagawa doesn't adapt instantly and prove to be awesome, it's going to be a long season for Man U fans. Europe will again be out the question and a top 4 finish is by no means guaranteed considering Arsenal and Chelsea have strengthened well. They need to hope Liverpool/Spurs/Newcastle don't get off to a stormer.

(No doubt Man U will somehow finish 2nd again due to Ferguson being an absolute boss).

Or even first. ;) Especially if we can land the much needed ball winner. I don't actually think we need another playmaker now. We have Kagawa, Cleverly will be fit and Scholes will probably make the odd impact sub. appearance. :)

Striker no longer needed. Rooney is your striker, Kagawa is a Rooney replacement.

Really, it won't be that rigid a system up top with both of them, I'm sure they'll be switching positions a lot and all. Allows a bit more freedom than before.

Yea but we dont have Bebatov and Owen. Granted we have an attacking trio
now but I would want one in case injuries pile up.

You do have Hernandez, Wellbeck and Rooney all potentially playing through the middle though. Plenty of options for one central berth.

Klass Huutleenar (spell check) would seem the perfect striker to buy with Berbatov and Owen leaving.

Ferguson will have had another year to work on the young lads to further instill the traditional Ferguson belief. So yeah, they'll probably still finish 2nd (if they win the league this year, I'll be incredibly shocked. I see them struggling in Europe again, and maybe finishing 2nd, some way behind City).

Indeed - and Hernandez should be fit again as well.

His club have said he's going nowhere - and I don't think we need another striker.

Klass Huntelaar, I believe. :)

I think too much is being expected of Cleverley. Yeah he showed talent in the games he played, but he didn't play many games. He was injured for the majority of the season and you can't base your expectations of him on a month period.
