key word is priority, why would I not want United to sign Modric but if we had to choose between an attacking or defensive midfielder I would prefer the latter

Because he's awesome and much better than Scholes :rolleyes

He's also in his prime, whereas Scholes is very much in the sunset of his career. Compare them both in their prime, I'd take Scholes any day.

De Rossi at Utd would be good. :)

Yep, because that's what we're truly lacking - that's what really showed through against City in that crucial game.

In his prime Pele was better than Rooney, but I'd still rather have Rooney up front if there was a game tomorrow :p

That's not really a fair comparison either - Pele has been retired for ages, whereas both Scholes and Modric are current players. ;)

The point is as valid as saying Scholes was better in his prime than Modric though :p

OK, point conceded - right now, Modric's better than Scholes. Doesn't matter either way, he's going to go to Real Madrid from what I've heard. Sod it, we've got Kagawa, let's nail a solid holding midfielder, and I'll be happy.

Another thing we've conveniently forgotten is Cleverly! He looked really good in early part of the season. Especially with the England angle in mind, it would be great to see him break into the team again. With that in mind, the midfield doesn't look so bad - apart from the desperate need for a holding midfielder.

Guess I'm glad in a way he won't be taking Spurs to pieces next year, but it's a shame that yet another of the world class players in the Prem is off.

Yep. I think there's an aspect in there that he just wants a change of scenery, as well as being able to win things. Then there's the Mourinho factor - he's said he wants to play for Mourinho. Plus of course, Real Madrid are the dream club for many European footballers.

Wow if Madrid are indeed willing to sign Modric, then Xabi just get the fark back to Anfield!

Ha na, both Xabi and Modric would play in the same team i reckon. He is the likely replacement for Kaka.

------------------------------Benzema/Higuain------------------

Ronaldo--------------------------Modric----------------Ozil-----

I have a feeling it's going to be yet another summer without any new faces in that central midfield area...

Yea i'm starting to get that feeling along with the strong hunch that he is going to back the young English pair of Cleverley and Jones to step up in that area.

To be fair, he's been quite good at that in the past. ;) Remember that Cleverley looked really good at the start of the season, but then he picked up a bad injury. I'm not too sure about Jones as the holding midfielder though - but if Sir Alex does go with that, especially if it comes off, it can only help England.

I think they'd have Modric alongside Alonso and still look to use Di Maria, Ronaldo and Ozil as the three playing up top depending on opposition. Think they'll want Modric to offer something similar to Xavi while Alonso/Khedira will be the Busquets role.
