I thought Arsene Wenger was interested in Buffon for a possible replacement for Lehmann...

They should not do it unless they aren't interested in saving penalties. Buffon is a great keeper, no question about that, but he looked clueless in the World Cup final penalty shootout, with even Barthez moving towards the right direction more often.

Buffon has a poor attitude aswell.

He decided the year he was going to retire about 4 years before it.

Well, Buffon isnt a penalty specialist, but his save off Zizou's header was probably the most crucial ever for Italian soccer.

Back to transfers...

Apparently our owner Roman Abramovich is ready to offer a staggering 70 million for AC Milan midfield ace Kaka.

Manchester United are confident ?25 million will be enough to land Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres. Atletico are ready to demand that United match the ?41.5 million buy-out clause on Torres' contract.

Manchester United are expected to accept a ?12 million bid from Real Madrid today for striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

I had expected more for Nistelrooy, 12 million seems almost cheap.

But 70 million is a ton of money. Is that 70 million pounds sterling ? That will make Kaka the most expensive player ever, won't it ?

Playing for Spurs is better than playing Serie B. And Spurs these days are quite ambitious . And Toon are planning to get either Toni or Iaquinta.

And Spurs are reportedly after Damien Duffarama! :p for 11 Million quid! Big "Whiner" Sam has yet again moaned over the EPL's buying prowess.
Well whast i'm saying is that he could go to a bigger club, than Spurs. And the Dufferama deal is supposedly very close to going through.Great signing.

70 million is way too much, kaka is good nodoubt, but I dont think he's worth that much. Its also being reported that if Madrid make any offers for Kaka(obviously that'll have to be more than Chelsea's current offer) then Chelsea will offer double the amount that Madrid offer,so its pretty obvious where Kaka is likely to end up.But my question is why? Chelsea are already having such a brilliant midfield combo with backups(or in other words capable regulars) in all midfield positions,so should they be so desperate to land another midfielder?

I think it is along the same lines of the supposed 100 Million bid for Adriano last season. All spoof! :p

BTW Delron Buckley is in training with Everton. He is a winger, who can double up as a striker as well. And we are waiting for a work permit for Anderson Silva. Things certainly are looking good. :)

Maybe because Chelsea have realised that they dont have a Brazilian in the team.

Bargain hunt
Just days after being crowned world champions, Italian football faces losing many of its star players following the verdict of the biggest sporting trial in the nation's history.

ON THE MOVE XI - PLAYERS WHO COULD BE AVAILABLE

_41859852_italian_players_203.gif

Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus)
Age: 28, Price: ?13m
Underlined his position as the world's best keeper at the World Cup by conceding just once in six games. Became the world's most expensive goalkeeper when Juve paid Parma ?33m for his services in 2001
Possible destinations: Arsenal, Inter Milan, Real Madrid

Fabio Cannavaro (Juventus)
Age: 32, Price: ?
Was the outstanding defender at the World Cup and, even at 32, there will be no shortage of takers if he is put on the market.
Possible destinations: Real Madrid, Chelsea

Andrea Pirlo (AC Milan)
Age: 27, Price: ?25m
The artist in the Italian side enjoyed a superb World Cup. A creator and scorer of goals, there will be no shortage of suitors although as Milan escaped relegation he may be persuaded to stay and his price tag is prohibitive.
Possible destinations: Arsenal

Kaka (AC Milan)Age: 24, Price: ?30m
One of the few Brazilians to emerge from the World Cup with some credit. The Milan playmaker and one-time Chelsea target pushed Ronaldinho to the sidelines to emerge as their key man.
Possible destinations: Real Madrid,FC Chelsea

Mauro Camoranesi (Juventus)
Age: 29, Price: ?
The Argentine-born winger is another of Italy's World Cup winners. A superb crosser of the ball, the only question mark over Camoranesi is his temperament - he was sent off against Arsenal last season
Possible destinations: Inter Milan, Liverpool

Luca Toni (Fiorentina)
Age: 29, Price: ?15m
The first player for nearly 50 years to score 30 goals in Serie A took his time to get going at the World Cup, before two against Ukraine in the quarter-finals. At 29 this could be the big striker's last chance to move to one of the world's top clubs.
Possible destinations: Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester United

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Juventus)
Age: 24, Price: ?
Often fails to live up to his billing as one of the world's top strikers and the Sweden player was off-form and injured for the duration of the finals. But the 24-year-old's ability and goal record means there are plenty of admirers out there.
Possible destinations: Inter Milan, Liverpool
